Reports said Manchester United remain interested in Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall, while The i Paper reported that Hall was interested in a move to Old Trafford a few months ago and has not changed that stance. Manchester United did not sign a new left-back in the summer of 2026 and remain keen on strengthening that position in 2027.
United's interest remains
TEAMtalk understand that Manchester United remain keen on Hall. According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United's co-owners INEOS are still interested in adding a new left-back to Michael Carrick's squad.
On September 11, TEAMtalk’s transfer insider Graeme Bailey told TEAMtalk: "Manchester United do maintain an interest in Hall, and sources at Old Trafford confirm that."
He added: "That does not mean United’s interest has disappeared."
Bailey also said: "For United, it is a case of continuing to monitor the situation rather than making an immediate move."
Newcastle's position and Hall's contract
Manchester United wanted to sign Hall from Newcastle in the summer of 2026, but Newcastle were consistently clear on not selling him in that window. Hall signed a new contract with Newcastle in September 2026 until 2031.
Bailey said on September 11: "But they also acknowledge that Newcastle getting this new deal over the line means a move in the short term is now off the table."
He also said: "They still regard Hall very highly and maintain an interest in him, but Newcastle have made it clear that they are not prepared to entertain that conversation now."
What other reports said
On October 14, Dean Jones reported on FlashScore that Manchester United remain admirers of Hall and would like to revisit the possibility of signing him, but that the financial demands are a major obstacle. Jones backed TEAMtalk's claim that Manchester United are still interested in Hall.
TEAMtalk reported that Newcastle want at least £85.6million (€100m, $113m) from Manchester United for Hall, attributing the claim to Dean Jones. On October 14, Dean Jones also reported on FlashScore that there is growing talk of Newcastle's valuation potentially exceeding €100m.
Hall's words after signing his deal
Hall told Newcastle’s official website at the time: "I’m absolutely delighted. It’s a really proud moment."
He added: "It’s an absolute pleasure to play for this club and to represent the supporters. I know how much it means to them."
Hall also said: "The fanbase and the support we get here, whether it’s at St. James’ Park or away, it’s the best in the league in my opinion. To be able to bring joy to their faces, it’s a big thing for me."
He said: "I obviously have a family connection with the club, which is incredibly important to us all."
Hall added: "One of the main reasons I play is to make my family proud, and I know how much it means to them to watch me playing for Newcastle United."
He also said: "It’s a really good place to be. It’s really pleasing with how we’ve started the season, especially with the new Gaffer and coaching staff coming in, and I think we can go on to achieve really big things."
