FIFA confirmed the United States will host the inaugural Women's Club World Cup from 5-30 January 2028, with 19 teams in the tournament.

FIFA has confirmed that the United States will host the inaugural Women's Club World Cup from 5-30 January 2028. The first edition will feature 19 teams and is designed to be held every four years.

Host nation and dates

FIFA said the United States was chosen to stage the 2028 tournament, which is scheduled from 5-30 January 2028. FIFA said the country was selected because of its experience in organising FIFA tournaments, its infrastructure and services, and interest in women's football there.

Sarai Bareman, Fifa's chief women's football officer, said: "Ultimately, the United States' recent excellence in staging top Fifa tournaments, combined with the significant interest in women's football there plus its elite sporting infrastructure, made the country the standout option."

Allocation of places

FIFA said the competition will have 19 teams. Six European clubs will represent UEFA, while AFC, CAF, Concacaf and Conmebol will each have three clubs, and OFC will have one club.

Clubs already qualified

FIFA said Arsenal are one of seven clubs that have already secured a place at the tournament. Barcelona, Gotham, Club America, Corinthians, Naegohyang and Wuhan Jiangda have also booked their place.

Bareman said: "These seven clubs, and a dozen more, will come together to show the strength and depth of women's club football to a global audience."

She added: "They will have the opportunity to tell their story, expand their fan base and represent their club on the world stage. They have thoroughly earned this opportunity to be part of history in the United States."

Change to the original plan

AFP reported that FIFA had initially slated the inaugural tournament for 2026 before pushing it back by two years.
