Lionel Messi arrived in Oviedo on Thursday 22 October ahead of receiving the Princess of Asturias Award for Sports. A large crowd greeted him when he reached his hotel in the city.
Arrival in Oviedo
GOAL, citing Marca, said Messi flew in by private jet from Miami and went straight to the hotel. Messi appeared alongside his wife Antonela, and they stopped to greet members of the Reconquista team.
Schedule on 22 October
An event with students, the academic community and the general public was scheduled for 22 October at 5:30 pm at the Sports Palace. An official dinner with the King and Queen of Spain and the rest of the award winners was also scheduled for 22 October.
Friday morning events
A royal reception for the award winners was scheduled for Friday morning at 11:40 at the Reconquista Hotel with the Asturias medallists, the favourite sons, and the adopted sons of 2026. On Friday morning, Princess Leonor was scheduled to present the award winners with a commemorative pin and take a group photo with them.
Awards ceremony
The official awards ceremony was scheduled for Friday afternoon at 6:30 pm at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo.
