Juventus drew 2-2 with Rennes in the Europa League at the Allianz Stadium on Thursday, fighting back to earn a point at home. Nick Woltemade set up Juventus's opener and then scored from the penalty spot in the second half, and he was praised after the match.
Decisive contributions against Rennes
Woltemade assisted Juventus's first goal before adding one himself from the spot after the break. Since joining Juventus on loan from Newcastle during the summer transfer window, he has three goals and one assist.
Europa League scoring run
Woltemade has scored in all of his first three European matches for Juventus. All three of his goals and his one assist for Juventus have come in the Europa League.
Praise from the Italian press
Football Italia said Woltemade earned praise from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport for his performance.
La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote that the game 'showed off' Woltemade's best qualities and said he was at 'total ease' in the final third when playing behind an out-and-out centre-forward, Randal Kolo Muani.
The front page of Friday's Corriere dello Sport claimed that Woltemade had finally 'stepped up' for Juventus. Tuttosport suggested that Woltemade was the 'only one who showed the right spirit' of the Juventus players on the pitch.
Serie A wait continues
Woltemade is still waiting for his first start and first goal contribution in Serie A after five consecutive appearances off the bench.
