Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini is expected to be out for six to eight weeks after tests showed a high grade lesion in his right thigh. The setback came after Roma's Champions League win over Slovan Bratislava on Tuesday and means he is not expected back before the next international break in November.
Tests confirm the injury
Pellegrini pulled up during Tuesday's Champions League victory over Slovan Bratislava. It had been hoped that he had stopped in time before doing any significant damage, but the test results on 22 October were far worse than predicted.
Sky Sport Italia reported that Pellegrini sustained a high grade lesion at the site of the distal musculotendinous junction of the semitendinosus muscle in the right thigh.
Expected recovery timeline
This kind of injury will require at least six to eight weeks on the sidelines. Roma cannot expect Pellegrini back until after the next break for international duty in November.
Roma's wider squad situation
Mario Hermoso, Nahuel Molina, Niccolò Pisilli and Donyell Malen scored in Roma's victory over Slovan Bratislava.
Gian Piero Gasperini is already dealing with injuries for Paulo Dybala, Manu Koné and Mile Svilar. Bryan Cristante returned to the squad after more than a month out.
