Paris Saint-Germain's home Ligue 1 match against Lyon was postponed from Sunday to Monday because of security concerns linked to protests in Paris.

Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 home match against Lyon at the Parc des Princes was postponed from Sunday to Monday because of security concerns linked to protests in Paris. The game had been due to kick off at 19:45 GMT on Sunday and will now be played at 20:30 on Monday.

Fixture moved by the LFP

The postponement was announced on Friday. French police prohibited the fixture from taking place on its original date.

The French league said in a statement: "The LFP takes note of the police decree prohibiting the staging of the game between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday at 8:45 pm (1945 GMT)... and has decided to reschedule the match for Monday at 8:30 pm."

Security operation in France

The match was moved because of security concerns linked to protests in Paris. France's Interior Minister, Laurent Nunez, announced on Friday that some 70,000 security personnel will be deployed around the country that weekend.

BBC Sport reported that French authorities are preparing a major security operation for demonstrations planned for Saturday. The NFL game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the Stade de France, and BBC Sport said it is expected to require a significant police deployment. The Independent said the NFL game is expected to go ahead as planned but require further police deployment, while AFP via Flashscore said it is set to go ahead as planned.

Other schedule changes

Toulouse's Ligue 1 home game against Troyes was moved from Saturday to Sunday at the request of authorities. AFP reported that games in France's second-tier Ligue 2 have also been moved that weekend on the request of police.

Ballon d'Or clash

The rescheduled match now clashes with the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London on Monday evening. There are 10 PSG players nominated for the men's award, and The Independent listed them as Dembele, Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Joao Neves, Willian Pacho, Fabian Ruiz, Ferran Torres and Vitinha.

Warren Zaire-Emery is nominated for the men's young talent of the year award, Matvey Safonov is shortlisted for the goalkeeper award, and Luis Enrique is up for men's coach of the year. BBC Sport said injured PSG pair Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are among the contenders for the award. PSG confirmed Kvaratskhelia ruptured his ACL in the win over Barcelona. The Independent said Dembele, Kvaratskhelia and PSG captain Marquinhos may still be able to attend the London ceremony. Dembele and Kvaratskhelia are currently sidelined with injuries.
