TEAMtalk reported that Chelsea are keeping a close watch on Florian Wirtz's situation at Liverpool. The outlet said Xabi Alonso has told Chelsea's hierarchy the club should be ready to enter the conversation if the Germany international becomes available next summer.
Chelsea's position
TEAMtalk reported that Chelsea are not actively pursuing the 23-year-old at this stage, but have established a watching brief on his situation. The outlet also reported that Alonso, who worked closely with Wirtz at Bayer Leverkusen, has made it clear to Chelsea's hierarchy that the club should consider a move if the opportunity arises.
How Wirtz joined Liverpool
Wirtz chose Liverpool after leaving Leverkusen. TEAMtalk reported that he turned down the chance to join other leading clubs, including Manchester City and Bayern Munich, before moving to Liverpool. TEAMtalk also reported that Liverpool effectively outbid their rivals after paying a fee worth up to £116m for Wirtz.
Liverpool's stance
TEAMtalk reported that Liverpool's hierarchy are desperate for the move to work and believe there is a player there that can thrive in the Premier League. The outlet added that Liverpool's hierarchy have limited patience if Wirtz's situation does not improve. According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool remain keen for Wirtz to deliver on their investment, and there is no suggestion that the club have decided to sell him.
Season form and other interest
Wirtz has registered three assists so far this season and opened his account for the campaign in Tuesday's 4-3 win over Villarreal at Anfield. Wirtz remains keen to make the move work. According to TEAMtalk, Jamie Carragher is among those demanding Liverpool drop Wirtz. TEAMtalk also reported that Bayern Munich are keeping close tabs on Wirtz, having made a strong effort to sign him before he opted for a move to England, and could revisit their interest if there is any indication that his Liverpool future is in doubt.
