Alan Shearer has commented on reports linking Eddie Howe with replacing Michael Carrick at Manchester United. Carrick's position remains under scrutiny after Manchester United won only two of their first 11 matches of the season and were beaten 4-1 by Como on Wednesday night.
Shearer on Carrick's situation
Shearer said he has sympathy for Carrick despite concern about Manchester United's results. He told Betfair: "I hope this isn’t the end for Michael Carrick at Man United, but obviously you’d have to be concerned because of the results."
Results increase pressure
Carrick could be sacked after the weekend if Manchester United lose to Bournemouth. Manchester United have only won two of their first 11 matches this season, and they were beaten 4-1 by Como on Wednesday night.
Howe linked with the role
Eddie Howe has been out of work since leaving Newcastle in the summer, and he is being mooted as a potential replacement for Carrick at Manchester United.
Question over control
Shearer added: "I guess you don’t have to be on the inside to think and know what’s going on at Manchester United."
He also said: "Eddie Howe has also been linked, he wants control of things, and in a club that he sees that is his role and his issue. Whether he would get that at Manchester United or not, I don’t know."
