Atletico Madrid drew away at Stuttgart in the Champions League, with Julian Alvarez scoring their equaliser. After the match, Diego Simeone spoke about Alvarez's goal and the red card in the second half.
How the match unfolded
Jamie Leweling gave Stuttgart the lead with a 36th-minute low strike. Alvarez equalised 80 seconds after the restart by sweeping home Ademola Lookman's cross.
Alvarez ends his drought
The goal was Alvarez's 50th goal for the club. It also ended his goal drought stretching back to a Champions League clash against Arsenal on April 29.
Simeone on the goal and the dismissal
Simeone told Movistar: "I was sure the goal was going to come. We got the 1-1, and we couldn't keep the game where we wanted because of the sending off, which affected us."
Morten Hjulmand was sent off in the 64th minute for a reckless challenge on Angelo Stiller. Simeone told Movistar: "The sending off was fair. I always tell the boys: whenever you leave the floor, you're close to a red card."
Atletico's position
Atletico Madrid are 15th in the league-phase standings on four points. Atletico's next European match is against Bayern Munich on November 3.
