La Liga president Javier Tebas is facing potential disciplinary action from Spanish authorities after a social media post comparing Real Madrid's communication strategy to the propaganda machinery of Nazi Germany. Spain's Higher Sports Council is evaluating whether to intervene officially. Tebas also serves as a vice-president for the Spanish Football Federation.
CSD reviews possible intervention
The Higher Sports Council in Spain, known as the CSD, is evaluating whether to intervene officially following Tebas's remarks. According to Marca, the CSD is analyzing the legal framework to determine if Tebas has breached institutional protocols regarding his public conduct.
Tebas's social media post
Tebas wrote: "The direction of Real Madrid directs an orchestra of mouthpieces and Real Madrid TV leads the singing. Their score is always the same: select the plays that suit them, repeat the grievance, feed the suspicion, and point fingers at the enemies."
Real Madrid calls for resignation
Real Madrid demanded that Tebas step down from his positions immediately. Real Madrid said: "The repeated conduct of Tebas shows a lack of neutrality, respect and impartiality incompatible with his institutional responsibilities."
Further points in Real Madrid's statement
Real Madrid said it is "absolutely intolerable" for a top-tier official to use Nazi comparisons to discredit a member club and its management team. The club also said Tebas spent his energy attacking them rather than focusing on allegations involving payments made by Barcelona to a former referee official.
