Turkish researcher in Islamic sciences Ihsan Senocak criticised the chant sung by Trabzonspor fans for Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, demanded that it stop immediately and warned against repeating it. The objection centres on the song supporters sing in Salah's name after his goals.
The chant at issue
Trabzonspor supporters chant "Allah Allah, Mohamed Salah". Senocak's criticism focused on that song sung in Salah's name.
Senocak's remarks
According to what was published by the Turkish website Haberler, Senocak opened his remarks by stressing the religious and scholarly standing of Trabzon. He said: "What is Trabzon? It is the home of scholars, is it not?"
He also said: "How can tens of thousands in Trabzon, which draws its pride from Islam and faith, chant the phrase 'Allah Allah, Mohamed Salah'? Where did you get this from?"
Call to stop
Calling on Trabzonspor's fans to stop chanting the slogan, he said: "Stop this immediately. You will bring the wrath of God upon us. Disasters and afflictions will befall us."
Reaction and club context
His remarks have since sparked wide discussion and controversy across social media. Salah joined Trabzonspor this summer on a free transfer.
