Binance still sits well ahead of every major centralized crypto exchange, with 39.2% market share according to newly released CoinGecko data. The numbers show a clear concentration of global centralized trading volume at the top, with Binance accounting for the largest portion by a wide margin.
Ranking shows a steep gap after Binance
CoinGecko’s breakdown places Bybit next at 8.1%, followed closely by MEXC at 7.8%. Gate comes in at 7.5%, while Crypto.com holds 7.2%. Bitget and OKX post similar levels at 6.4% and 6.3%, with Coinbase at 6.1%, HTX at 6.0%, and Upbit closing the top ten at 5.5%.
The spread among those lower-ranked exchanges is narrow. Binance’s lead is not. That contrast points to a market where competition is active across the middle tier, yet trading activity remains heavily concentrated on the largest platform. The data also shows that most centralized crypto trades are still being executed on a small group of major venues rather than being evenly distributed across the sector.
CZ ties market share to user capital allocation
After the figures were published, Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao commented on what they say about exchange rankings. He said market share comes from user behavior, with traders expressing preference through the way they allocate capital. His framing puts the ranking down to actual trading decisions rather than external narratives about exchange competition.
Zhao also noted that CoinGecko operates in the same data segment as CoinMarketCap, which remains part of Binance’s investment portfolio. He described CoinGecko as a competing data provider and stressed that the report was released independently. That point appears aimed at showing the ranking did not come from Binance’s own internal data channel.
Liquidity and infrastructure remain central to Binance’s position
Zhao said Binance’s standing reflects liquidity depth, platform reliability, and infrastructure strength. In his view, sustained trading volume is tied less to exchange messaging and more to whether users trust a venue to operate consistently.
He also connected that trust to the current period of regulatory scrutiny facing centralized exchanges. Taken together, the CoinGecko report and Zhao’s remarks outline a market structure where trading volume is still concentrated at the top, and Binance continues to hold the largest share as users favor platforms they view as operationally stable.
