Bitcoin mining companies are increasingly pivoting toward artificial intelligence (AI) computing and cloud services, leveraging their existing infrastructure for high-performance workloads. The latest to join this trend is Singapore-based publicly traded blockchain and high-performance computing firm Bitdeer (Nasdaq: BTDR), which announced its expansion into AI by becoming a member of the Nvidia Partner Network as a cloud service provider.

Bitdeer AI Cloud: Powered by Nvidia DGX Systems

Through its new offering, dubbed Bitdeer AI Cloud, the company will provide GPU services based on Nvidia's DGX Superpod and DGX H100 systems. The DGX Superpod offers scalable infrastructure that, combined with Nvidia DGX systems, provides a turnkey solution for deploying AI supercomputers. Bitdeer stated that its AI Cloud will deliver state-of-the-art computing power to businesses and innovators across Asia, the company's primary target market.

“We are excited to work with Nvidia to lay the groundwork for the next era of AI and large language model advancements in Asia,” said Matt Linghui Kong, CEO of Bitdeer. The company aims to accelerate generative AI, large language models (LLMs), and other AI workloads in the region.

Bitcoin Miners Flock to AI Computing

Bitdeer is not the first Bitcoin miner to diversify into AI. In August 2023, Australian miner Iris Energy invested $10 million in Nvidia GPUs to enter the AI space. Separately, Tether and Northern Data have committed $420 million to acquire 10,000 Nvidia H100 units for AI cloud services. These moves reflect a broader industry shift as miners seek new revenue streams ahead of Bitcoin halving events and intensifying competition for hash power. AI computing, with its insatiable demand for parallel processing, aligns naturally with the power and cooling infrastructure already built for mining operations.

Four-Phase Roadmap for Full-Stack AI Services

Bitdeer outlined a strategic timeline consisting of four phases: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), and Application as a Service (AaaS). This progression indicates the company's ambition to evolve from providing raw GPU compute to offering fully managed AI solutions. Tony Paikeday, Senior Director of the DGX platform at Nvidia, commented, “Generative AI empowers businesses to unlock unprecedented scalability, reliability, and innovation. With its Nvidia DGX infrastructure, Bitdeer can provide the AI supercomputing and software needed to build and deploy generative AI models and services.”

The partnership marks a significant milestone for both Bitdeer and the broader crypto-mining industry, signaling that the convergence of digital asset mining and AI is not a fleeting trend but a structural transformation. As more miners repurpose their facilities for AI workloads, the lines between crypto compute and AI compute are blurring, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape of cloud services in Asia and beyond.
