The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has announced the upcoming launch of its new non-fungible token (NFT) platform, FIFA+ Collect, designed for soccer fans worldwide. Developed in partnership with blockchain firm Algorand, the platform is set to go live later this month, with initial collections and details on exclusive limited-edition releases to be unveiled at launch.

What FIFA+ Collect Offers

According to FIFA's press release on Friday, the digital collectibles will immortalize memorable moments from FIFA World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments, featuring iconic art and imagery. Romy Gai, FIFA Chief Business Officer, stated: “This exciting announcement makes FIFA collectibles available to any football fan, democratizing the ability to own a part of the FIFA World Cup.” He added, “Fandom is changing and football fans around the world engage with the game in new and exciting ways… Just like sports memorabilia and stickers, this is an accessible opportunity for fans around the world to engage with their favorite players, moments and more on new platforms.”

Integration with FIFA+ and Multi-Language Support

FIFA+ Collect will be available on FIFA+, the federation’s digital platform that provides live soccer games, interactive games, news, tournament information, and other original content. Initially, the NFT service will support English, French, and Spanish, with additional languages to follow. Users can access it via web browsers and mobile devices.

Strategic Partnership with Algorand

This NFT platform is part of FIFA’s existing partnership with Algorand, announced earlier this year. In May, the two organizations signed a sponsorship and technical partnership deal ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. W. Sean Ford, interim CEO of Algorand, commented: “The commitment FIFA has made to bridge to Web3 enabled by Algorand, is a testament to their innovative spirit and desire to directly and seamlessly engage with football fans.” Algorand’s blockchain technology provides a secure and scalable foundation for FIFA’s digital collectibles ecosystem.

The launch of FIFA+ Collect represents a significant step for the sports industry in embracing digital collectibles and fan engagement through blockchain. As fan behavior evolves toward Web3 experiences, sports organizations are increasingly looking to NFTs to deepen interaction and generate new revenue streams. FIFA has not ruled out further crypto-related initiatives, and more details are expected in the coming months.
