Ledger, the crypto hardware wallet maker, said it is building a new device called Ledger Atom that is designed to look and function more like a smartphone, according to CoinDesk. The company said the Android-based device is scheduled for release in mid-2027. Atom will support standard mobile apps including WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok, while also letting users switch between regular smartphone features and a security mode for managing digital assets. Ledger also said the device will include its AI assistant, OpenClaw. In comments emailed to CoinDesk, a Ledger spokesperson said Atom will add protections aimed at defending against this type of attack. Those measures include shielding around the device’s most sensitive components, sensors that can detect attempts to remove the screen or back cover, and packaging designed to show whether it has been opened. The tamper-detection system has its own battery, so it can continue running even when the device is powered off. Ledger said it plans to sell Atom through its own website at first rather than through third-party sellers. The company also said it has no current plan to offer a trade-in program for existing customers affected by the incident, though it did not rule out a future upgrade promotion. Separately, Solana Mobile said Ledger is its first hardware extension partner, and that Solana’s dApp store and wallet will be combined into an app called Seeker and integrated with Ledger Atom.

Ledger is developing a new device that is meant to look and work more like a smartphone, with the Ledger Atom scheduled for release in mid-2027, according to CoinDesk.

The crypto hardware wallet maker said Atom will run Android, which means users will be able to install common apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok. Users will also be able to switch between standard smartphone functions and a secure mode used to manage digital assets. The device will include the AI assistant OpenClaw.

In an email to CoinDesk, a Ledger spokesperson said Atom will add extra protections designed to defend against this type of attack. Those protections include shields around the device’s most sensitive components, sensors that can detect attempts to remove the screen or back cover, and special packaging that can show whether the box has been opened.

CoinDesk reported that the tamper-detection system has a separate battery, allowing it to keep working even when the device is turned off.

Ledger said it plans to sell the device through its own website at first instead of using third-party sellers. In theory, that could reduce distribution-channel risks linked to the CryptoBilis incident, according to the report.

The company also said it currently has no plan to launch a trade-in program for existing customers affected by the incident, although it did not rule out an upgrade promotion in the future.

Separately, Solana Mobile announced that Ledger has become its first hardware extension partner. Solana’s dApp store and wallet will be merged into a single application called Seeker, which will integrate with Ledger Atom.
