MELANIA is the official meme token announced by Melania Trump, and it launched on Jan. 19, 2025 on the Solana blockchain. The project’s website describes it as a token centered on fun and collectibility, not a financial instrument or an investment product. The release came just two days after Donald Trump introduced $TRUMP, a rollout that quickly pulled political attention into crypto trading.
Launch timing and project identity
Melania Trump posted on her official X account that users could buy $MELANIA, and Donald Trump later reposted the announcement to his much larger audience. That amplification helped push the token into wider view almost immediately. Unlike many meme coins that appear through anonymous teams or loosely organized communities, MELANIA was presented from day one as an official token with a public-facing identity.
Technically, the token runs on Solana, a network known for fast transaction speeds and low fees. That makes it a common choice for meme coin launches, where trading activity can spike sharply in a short period. MELANIA has a total supply of 1 billion tokens. According to the project details, 15% is allocated to public distribution, 35% to team vesting, and the remaining supply goes to liquidity, the treasury, and community initiatives.
Token unlocks and supply structure
The team allocation is not released into circulation at once. The vesting plan starts with a 30-day lockup, followed by a linear release over one year. In a market segment where supply shocks can move prices quickly, that schedule gives traders a clearer timeline for when additional tokens may enter the market.
The project also highlights public access to its token distribution and roadmap information. Even so, visibility into supply mechanics does not remove the core traits of meme coins. These assets still trade heavily on attention, social momentum, and liquidity conditions, and those factors can shift fast.
Price history: fast rise, then steep drop
MELANIA’s trading history is short, but the swings were large almost from the start. According to CoinMarketCap, the token hit an all-time high of $13.73 on its first day after launch, Jan. 19. By that evening, it had dropped to around $7.5. Later that night and into the early hours of Jan. 20, the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration, it climbed back above $12 before falling rapidly to about $3.5.
The decline continued over the next several days. By Jan. 24, MELANIA was trading at approximately $2.7, with a market capitalization of about $460 million. The sequence showed how quickly launch-day excitement could turn into aggressive volatility once early momentum began to fade.
Whale concentration remains a major risk
A Chainalysis report said a small number of whales control a large share of both MELANIA and TRUMP. While many retail buyers entered the market, the report said about 50 wallets made more than $10 million each. At the same time, most holders of either token reportedly put in relatively small amounts, typically under $100.
That creates a market structure where broad participation exists, but meaningful influence over price still sits with a limited number of large holders. Some of those wallets are sitting on positions worth hundreds of millions of dollars. In practice, that level of concentration can make price action more sensitive to large trades and shifts in sentiment.
An official token, but still a meme coin
MELANIA stands out because it ties a meme token directly to a major political figure and a high-profile public launch. The project stresses official ownership, a visible team, and published tokenomics. At the same time, its own website says the token is meant for entertainment and collecting rather than financial use. That combination has made MELANIA unusual in presentation, though its early market behavior has remained familiar: rapid attention, sharp volatility, and heavy dependence on hype.
