The team behind Zakura, a full-node client for Zcash, has released Zakura Common, a cryptography and protocol library built for the Zcash ecosystem, according to ChainCatcher. Official benchmark results show major performance gains across several workloads. On mobile devices, proof generation was more than 14 times faster, while desktop proof generation improved by more than 5 times. The benchmarks also showed Sinsemilla hashing running more than 21 times faster, trial decryption improving by more than 1.5 times, and zk-SNARK verification speeding up by 4x to 8x. In many cases, the wait time for wallets to create transactions was reduced from more than 3 seconds to under 200 milliseconds. The upgrade does not require a network upgrade. The codebase has been open-sourced under dual MIT and Apache 2.0 licenses, and Zakura 1.3.0 will move to this technology stack.
