Alleged Anthropic Mythos model leak on Hugging Face is likely fake, Reddit users say

A Hugging Face repository claiming to contain training files for an Anthropic "Mythos-class" model spread across Reddit on Nov. 1, drawing roughly 2,670 upvotes on the main post. After examining the files, users said the supposed 7.72 TB checkpoint does not appear to be a real Anthropic model. Their view was that, aside from the tokenizer, packaging, and word embedding matrix, most of the weights were synthetically generated from random noise. The most detailed analysis came from Reddit user johnxreturn, who estimated there was only a 0.5% chance the repository contained a genuine Anthropic checkpoint. He said the file structure looked convincing and that the claimed parameter count broadly checked out after accounting for a format that Hugging Face may not have counted. But he argued the actual weight content failed multiple consistency tests, including abnormal similarity between output and embedding layers, mismatched quantization calibration values, and weight distributions that did not resemble those of a trained model. Other users also flagged contradictions in the repository documentation and warned against running bundled custom Python code. Anthropic had not publicly responded at the time of publication.

OpenAI to merge ChatGPT and Codex usage caps in December, drawing backlash from Plus subscribers

OpenAI says ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Business plans will begin sharing a single usage allowance across chat and the coding tool Codex starting in December, with consumption measured in tokens. Only the Instant mode will remain exempt from usage deductions. The change has triggered a wave of complaints from paying users, especially ChatGPT Plus subscribers who pay $20 a month and had previously treated chat and Codex as separate pools. A popular Reddit thread on r/ChatGPT reached 1,054 upvotes and 602 comments, with multiple users saying they planned to cancel. OpenAI has not disclosed the new shared allowance figures for Plus after the policy takes effect. The company said the change is tied to folding Work tab agent features into the main ChatGPT interface, allowing users to assign tasks such as building websites, creating presentations, and handling web actions directly inside regular conversations. OpenAI also said most users should not need to wait for resets more often than they do now, but it did not announce compensation, a firm launch date, or detailed token limits for the updated plans.

AI-driven demand lifts silicon wafer market as Taiwanese suppliers negotiate first price increase in three years

Taiwan’s silicon wafer market is showing signs of an earlier-than-expected recovery, with stronger AI-led demand for advanced manufacturing pushing customers to pull in orders and suppliers to negotiate higher contract prices. According to an Economic Daily News report cited by ABMedia, GlobalWafers, Taiwan Semiconductor Co., and Wafer Works are all seeing improving operating conditions, and new order pricing is moving in the same direction: up. Industry sources said shipments originally scheduled for completion by the end of this year have already been cleared, while some orders initially planned for early 2027 have started shipping one quarter ahead of schedule. GlobalWafers Chairperson Doris Hsu said next year should bring a sharp rise in revenue, with spot prices expected to climb from the second half of this year through the first quarter of next year. She also said advance payments tied to long-term agreements are likely to increase from the first half of next year. The report also highlighted recent earnings and fundraising activity at GlobalWafers and expansion financing plans at Wafer Works.

Claude and Grok move to default invisible watermarking for AI-generated text

Anthropic and xAI are rolling out invisible text watermarking across more of their AI models in the same week, with both companies tying the move to the European Union’s AI Act. Anthropic said outputs from four older Claude models — Claude Mythos 5, Opus 4.7, Opus 4.6, and Sonnet 4.6 — would also carry watermarks starting Nov. 3, after first enabling the system on its latest models in August. xAI’s developer documentation says that, from Nov. 7, text produced through the API by seven Grok models will be watermarked by default. Those models include grok-4.7, grok-4.6, grok-4.5, grok-4.3, and three grok-4.20 variants: reasoning, non-reasoning, and multi-agent. Anthropic says the watermark is embedded in word choice, remains after copy and paste, and does not include user or organization identity data. Detection is not publicly open and currently requires application, with access limited to groups such as regulators, law enforcement, media, fact-checkers, researchers, educational institutions, and EU civil society organizations. xAI says its watermarking slightly affects token selection, adds no visible characters, and can be identified through the x-watermark response header, while its separate detection API also requires an application.

Brookfield leads South Korea’s first $8 billion GPU financing deal

Brookfield has appointed KB Kookmin Bank as lead arranger for what the bank described as the largest syndicated loan in South Korean history, aimed at funding artificial intelligence chip purchases for NAVER. In a statement released Sunday, KB Kookmin Bank said the loan will finance AI computing infrastructure, including graphics processing units, or GPUs. The facility totals KRW 10.7 trillion, roughly $8 billion, and forms part of a broader KRW 12.6 trillion financing package. The bank also said the transaction marks South Korea’s first large-scale GPU financing deal, with the AI chips to be supplied to NAVER Cloud under long-term lease arrangements. The report added that banks and private credit funds across Asia are expanding AI-related financing beyond data center construction to include hardware such as chips that provide computing power.
