Tech and crypto stocks slide as AI funding gets pricier; Apple, AMD and U.S. payrolls in focus this week

U.S. equities ended last week under pressure as a sharp sell-off in technology and semiconductor names pulled the Nasdaq lower, with Intel at the center after weak fourth-quarter guidance. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index dropped 7.20% on Friday, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 2.86%. Investors are also reassessing whether massive AI spending can keep translating into returns, and whether capital will remain available on the same terms. That shift is showing up not only in equities, but in credit markets and private fundraising. Intel, Alphabet and Meta have all fallen below recent stock offering subscription prices, leaving participating investors underwater. OpenAI has cut its latest fundraising target, while Microsoft completed a $25 billion bond sale, its first U.S. dollar bond issuance since 2017. In crypto-linked equities, names including Bullish, Galaxy Digital, Coinbase and Circle all moved lower. Binance later resumed withdrawals after reporting heavy outflows, and spot Bitcoin ETFs saw a net outflow of $643 million on the day cited in the report. The week ahead is packed. Apple reports Monday after the close, AMD is due Tuesday after the bell, and the U.S. October nonfarm payrolls report lands Friday. Markets are also watching eurozone inflation data, U.S. services activity readings, and developments tied to China’s financial policy meetings.

Deedy Das says founders with top VC experience had the strongest odds of winning lead investors

Menlo Ventures partner Deedy Das used Harmonic data to study 8,525 U.S. startups founded between 2019 and 2026, comparing 63 founder-background traits to see which profiles were more likely to secure a lead investor from a top venture capital firm at the seed or Series A stage. The highest-ranked factor was prior experience at a top VC firm, which was associated with roughly 2.83x higher odds than otherwise similar peers. Experience at frontier AI labs and backgrounds in cybersecurity followed at 2.16x and 2.03x, respectively. The study also listed several other positive signals, including elite university backgrounds at 1.41x and former Google employees at 1.29x. Das noted that former VC employees in the dataset were not limited to investors, but also included entrepreneurs-in-residence, researchers, and interns, with some having incubated projects inside funds. On the negative side, the odds ratio was 0.65 for founders with MBAs, 0.59 for founders educated in China, and 0.57 when the oldest founder on the team was over 50.

Kanye-linked address withdraws 2,074 ETH from Binance, worth about $4.7 million

A wallet linked to Kanye withdrew 2,074 ETH from Binance, worth about $4.7 million, according to on-chain monitoring by @ai_9684xtpa. The move came after the same address had previously sold 1,390 ETH on-chain following the disclosure of the Oct. 30 Binance hack news in order to reduce liquidation risk. After withdrawals were broadly reopened, the address then pulled another 2,074 ETH from Binance. It remains unclear whether the latest transfer reflects a larger position being rebuilt or simply a token withdrawal. Based on the figures cited by the monitor, the address currently has 21,109 ETH posted as collateral and has borrowed $27.71 million in stablecoins, with health factors of 1.44 and 1.62.

JackYi says exchanges need a clear plan to prevent a second breach

Liquid Capital founder JackYi said on X that Binance appears able to absorb the stolen amount with its existing profits, adding that the exchange’s asset safety and liquidity do not appear to be in question. He said the situation is "completely different" from what happened at FTX. In his view, the main issue now is not the current theft itself, but whether exchanges, including Binance, can prevent a second incident. JackYi said what worries users is the possibility that, in the AI era, hackers’ offensive capabilities may be evolving faster than exchanges’ defenses. He also raised the question of what risks attackers may already have planted inside exchange systems. JackYi called on exchanges, including Binance, to provide the public with a detailed plan that can reassure users. His comments focused on post-incident security preparedness rather than liquidity concerns.
