ASPEED signs two-year capacity procurement deal with ASE, effective from 2027

ASPEED Technology said on Sept. 14 in a filing to Taiwan’s Market Observation Post System that its board had approved a capacity procurement agreement with ASE Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. The contract will run for two years, from Jan. 1, 2027 through Dec. 31, 2028. The filing said the counterparty has no related-party relationship with ASPEED, while the contract value was not disclosed. According to the announcement, the agreement was signed to secure a stable supply of capacity. ASPEED said restrictions, commitments and other key terms will be handled in accordance with the contract. In the section on financial and business impact, the company said the deal is expected to stabilize capacity sourcing and have a positive effect on future financial and business development. It also said the arrangement was made to meet operational growth needs. The filing did not disclose the amount of the transaction, nor did it specify the type or volume of capacity being purchased. The fact date was listed as Sept. 14, with the decision approved by the board. The filing was submitted by senior manager Wu Li-li. ASPEED is a supplier of server baseboard management controller, or BMC, chips and operates under a fabless model, relying on external partners for packaging and testing. ASE is a provider of semiconductor packaging and testing services.

TSMC’s 3nm, 2nm and CoWoS capacity remains tight as AWS and MediaTek seek more allocation

TSMC’s advanced manufacturing and packaging capacity remains under heavy strain in late Q3 2026, according to ChainCatcher. The report said 3nm, 2nm and CoWoS capacity continues to run short, with NVIDIA and Apple still taking up a large share of leading-edge process and packaging resources. Amazon Web Services, through its Annapurna chip unit, has recently increased tape-outs for its in-house AI chips and secured more 3nm capacity. MediaTek is also competing for 2nm, 3nm and CoWoS-S/L capacity, driven not only by smartphone chips but also by a major Google TPU order. Market chatter points to a recent reshuffle in TSMC’s capacity allocation. After winning the Google TPU order, MediaTek is said to have slightly adjusted its 3nm and 2nm plans, while the next-generation TPU v9 is expected to use both TSMC’s CoWoS-L and Intel’s EMIB-T. The report added that TSMC accelerated expansion from early 2026, with combined 2nm monthly capacity at Fab 20 and Fab 22 reaching about 100,000 wafers by the end of October, while 3nm monthly capacity in Southern Taiwan is around 185,000 wafers. Overall utilization stood at about 96.2% by the end of September.

Post-SEMICON Taiwan takeaways: FOPLP, glass substrates and silicon photonics open five new supply-chain angles

A post-event discussion from Statementdog following SEMICON Taiwan highlighted how the semiconductor supply chain is being reshaped as AI computing pushes performance and power demands higher. The program focused on order spillover from wafer foundries into advanced packaging, the rise of fan-out panel-level packaging (FOPLP), new thermal materials such as diamond and insulating silicon carbide, and the growing importance of high-precision optical alignment equipment for co-packaged optics (CPO). The discussion said advanced packaging is no longer confined to foundries. OSAT companies including ASE, SPIL and Powertech, along with European players, are expanding more aggressively into the segment, with capital spending in many cases rising by more than 100% as they try to replicate and refine advanced packaging processes. Statementdog also pointed to TSMC’s expected adoption of ASML’s High-NA EUV tools around 2030 as a sign of its strategy of delaying mature-spec adoption to pursue what it described as the best cost efficiency. Beyond packaging, the program flagged five areas to watch: order spillover tied to European capacity expansion, still-unsettled thermal material standards, diverging FOPLP process routes, high-priced optical alignment platforms for silicon photonics and CPO, and equipment demand linked to the shift from glass carriers toward glass substrates and interposers.

Anthropic adds Remote Control for Claude Code, letting users take over local sessions from a phone

Anthropic’s Remote Control feature for Claude Code lets users connect to a locally running coding session from claude.ai/code or the Claude mobile app on iOS and Android. The setup keeps code execution and file system access on the local machine, while syncing conversation transcripts and tool activity through Anthropic’s servers so users can switch between terminal, browser, and phone without starting over. The feature requires Claude Code v2.1.52 or later and a claude.ai account login through claude auth login. It does not work with API key authentication or long-lived setup tokens. Free plans are excluded, while Pro and Max support it directly. Team and Enterprise plans can use it only if an organization owner enables the setting in admin controls, and organizations using Zero Data Retention cannot use the feature at all. The guide also breaks down three main activation paths, plus a VS Code extension entry point, supported and unsupported commands on mobile, push notification setup, security boundaries, Trusted Devices controls for enterprise users, and a detailed list of known errors and fixes. Anthropic’s positioning is clear: Remote Control is for handing off an active local session to another device, while cloud sessions, Dispatch, and Slack-based Claude Tag are meant for different operating models.

ChainCatcher Morning Brief: Korean memory inventory warning and Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP token plan lead a packed crypto cycle

ChainCatcher’s latest morning roundup spans a wide mix of crypto, macro, security and tech-capex developments from the past 24 hours. Bitcoin slipped nearly 1% to around $79,700 as rising oil prices, linked in the report to an escalation between the U.S. and Iran, added fresh pressure to risk assets. At the same time, spot crypto ETFs kept attracting money, with Bitcoin spot ETFs posting $987 million in weekly net inflows and Ethereum spot ETFs drawing $218 million, both marking a third straight week of net inflows. Beyond price action, several project and security updates stood out. Vitalik Buterin pushed back on claims that AI could break Bitcoin’s security assumptions, while Galaxy Research said roughly 45% of the assets stolen in the Coldcard “Wave 3” incident have now moved into cross-chain or mixing paths. Liquid Network and SideSwap also remained in focus after an exploit involving 4,000 L-BTC, and Blockstream said the vulnerability tied to the incident had been patched. On the corporate and policy front, KB Securities warned that Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have memory inventories below 10 days, pointing to a tighter supply picture as AI infrastructure spending expands. The Wall Street Journal separately reported that Hunter Biden plans to launch a meme coin called LAPTOP on Base on Sept. 9, with a detailed token allocation, lockup and burn-or-charity framework tied to preset future events.

PA Daily: ARB jumps 44.1% in 24 hours, while PONS briefly tops a $990 million market cap

PA Daily’s Sept. 6 roundup tracked a wide spread of market, regulatory and on-chain developments across the crypto sector. Arbitrum’s ARB rose 44.1% over the past 24 hours to $0.1901, while PONS, a token tied to Robinhood Chain activity, briefly pushed its market capitalization above $990 million before settling at $873 million, still up 29.23% on the day with roughly $109.5 million in 24-hour volume.
