Crypto card spending hit $1.04 billion in July, with stablecoins funding 70% of transactions

Crypto card spending reached $1.04 billion in July, rising more than threefold from a year earlier, according to CoinDesk, as stablecoins took a larger role in everyday payments. USDC and USDT funded 70% of more than 10 million transactions, while the average payment size climbed from $59 last year to $86. The figures point to a shift in usage away from large cash-outs and toward routine purchases such as groceries, ride-hailing, and food delivery. Growth was led by emerging markets. Data from Visa partner StraitsX showed that total transaction volume in low-GDP markets rose about 600% between March 2025 and February 2026, compared with 150% in high-GDP markets. In Latin America, Oobit said active users in Brazil spend about $400 a month, with grocery stores accounting for 35% of regional activity, while 72% of payments in Argentina used USDT and food made up 41% of transactions. Market share also remained concentrated, with RedotPay, EtherFi, and KAST accounting for about 77% of tracked July volume.

Circle partners with BIND Group to expand USDC access for institutions in Argentina

Circle has formed a strategic alliance with Argentine financial services group BIND Group to give businesses in Argentina access to USDC liquidity through BEN, BIND’s licensed virtual asset service provider. BIND Group has more than $2 billion in total assets, and its core banking entity, BIND Banco Industrial, focuses on institutional and corporate clients. According to the announcement, BEN will operate under Argentine regulatory requirements and support use cases including payments, treasury management, and digital asset transfers. The companies framed the deal as a step toward broader institutional use of stablecoins in the country. BIND Vice President Andrés Meta said wider institutional access to USDC marks an important step for Argentina’s digital asset ecosystem, while Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said Argentina has become a more attractive destination for foreign investment. Argentina is also one of the few markets in Latin America where USDC adoption is close to USDT. Oobit, backed by Tether, said USDC transactions by Argentine users account for 46% of the country’s total stablecoin transaction volume.
