Coin Center2026-08-26 23:35:04Coin Center research chief says prosecuting developers cannot stop immutable smart contractsCoin Center Research Director Peter Van Valkenburgh said in a post on X that prosecuting developers cannot stop an immutable smart contract once it has already been deployed. He wrote that while the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York is often seen as a kind of global financial police force, that authority does not extend to halting code that is already live and cannot be changed. Van Valkenburgh argued that conventional legal tools have clear limits when they confront immutable code. The comment came during a broader discussion about crypto regulation and the legal responsibility attached to decentralized protocols. The remarks point to a core conflict in the sector: technical systems that execute on their own versus legal frameworks built to hold identifiable people and organizations accountable. Ethereum Foun2026-08-26 00:12:52Ethereum Foundation flags gas fee changes in Glamsterdam upgradeThe Ethereum Foundation said the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade will include gas fee changes through EIP-8037 and EIP-8038. The update affects the cost of state creation and access. According to the Foundation, most contracts should not be affected, but contracts that rely on hardcoded gas values or other older assumptions may need to be updated, or they could fail or see degraded performance.920
TRON2026-08-25 09:12:49TRON launches Proposal No. 107 vote to add TVM compatibility with Ethereum Prague and OsakaTRON super representatives have initiated voting on Mainnet Committee Proposal No. 107, with the ballot scheduled to close at 14:00 Singapore time on Aug. 28. The proposal would enable a set of features in GreatVoyage-v4.8.2 tied to TVM compatibility with Ethereum’s Prague and Osaka upgrades. These include support for historical block hash queries, a new CLZ opcode, a secp256r1 precompiled contract for Passkey verification, and lower energy consumption for MODEXP. If approved, the change would improve compatibility between the TRON Virtual Machine and the latest Ethereum upgrade features, while also expanding support for smart contract development and cross-ecosystem adaptation. The update was reported by Odaily on Aug. 25.1110

ERC-83912026-08-24 15:17:33Eric Conner drafts ERC-8391 to add asset-status interface for tokenized stocks and RWAEthHub founder Eric Conner said he has written a new Ethereum Request for Comments proposal, ERC-8391, aimed at giving tokenized stocks and real-world assets an onchain asset-status interface. The proposal addresses a practical gap in current smart-contract design: tokenized equities can trade around the clock onchain, while the New York Stock Exchange is open only 32.5 hours per week. In that setup, contracts may struggle to tell whether a stale price reflects a normal market closure, a broken oracle feed, or a corporate event such as an acquisition during off-hours. Those situations can look identical at the byte level onchain, even though the correct contract response would differ. Conner also pointed to other pieces of information that prices alone do not convey, including trading halts, limit-up or limit-down locks, and redemption windows. Under ERC-8391, the standard would define what questions a contract can query about an asset’s status, covering market phase, halts, valuation activity, and redemption windows. Oracles would be able to feed that data into the interface, with the token responding to those queries.1080
Justin Sun2026-08-22 13:35:18Justin Sun says World Liberty Financial lawsuit centers on on-chain asset ownershipTRON founder Justin Sun said his lawsuit against World Liberty Financial is not merely a commercial dispute over $45 million and 4 billion tokens. In his account, the case goes to a more basic question for the blockchain industry: whether users truly control their assets without needing anyone’s permission. Sun said the sector was built on the idea of "your keys, your coins," and argued that principle is at stake in the case. According to Sun, the dispute exposed a contract design that secretly embedded the power to freeze user assets at will. He said that authority was not disclosed, was not subject to governance, and had no procedural guardrails. He also said the power was used within days of the token unlock. Sun argued that if an issuer can confiscate holders’ assets at any time, blockchain would be no different from the old system it set out to replace. Sun said he plans to pursue the lawsuit through to the end. He framed the case as an effort not only to recover assets, but also to establish in court a precedent that users’ assets must genuinely belong to them.1130
Sherlock2026-08-18 15:50:00Sherlock launches Audit Engine for coordinated AI security reviewsBlockchain security audit platform Sherlock said it has launched Sherlock Audit Engine, a system it describes as combining its strongest AI security methods into a coordinated review workflow. The company said the goal is to open a new stage of AI-native security auditing. Sherlock added that its team spent several months building the engine in a non-public environment and tested it against high-risk code. The Audit Engine is now live and can conduct coordinated AI security reviews for smart contracts and other code.1020
Stellar2026-08-12 18:03:38Stellar to Launch Protocol 28 'Adapter' Upgrade for Smart Contract DevelopersStellar Development Foundation has announced the upcoming Protocol 28 network upgrade, codenamed Adapter, with a focus on improving the smart contract development experience. The upgrade is expected to deliver faster consensus, support atomic upgrades for smart contract fleets, and improve data migration compatibility. According to a Techub News report, Protocol 28 includes three specific changes: CAP-83, CAP-85, and CAP-86. CAP-83 aims to speed up consensus by allowing validators to vote ahead of time. CAP-85 supports atomic upgrades for fleets of contracts. CAP-86 improves compatibility for data structure migration. The Stellar Development Foundation said the full performance benefits will be phased in after the upgrade goes live on mainnet. Techub News reported the announcement, though no specific mainnet launch date was provided. The upgrade targets the smart contract development experience as its main focus, with the foundation laying out the three CAP improvements as the core of this release. In total, the Protocol 28 package is built around these three CAP proposals.1670
