Mikel Arteta said Arsenal's restructuring was explained to him as part of analysis across the club aimed at evolving and improving.

Mikel Arteta responded to reports that Arsenal are planning staff redundancies and said the restructuring had been explained to him as analysis carried out across the club with the intention of evolving and improving. GOAL reported that Arsenal are set to make 60 staff redundancies across several departments.

Details of the reported cuts

GOAL reported on 17 October that chief executive Richard Garlick had informed staff of the upcoming reductions that week. GOAL reported that the reductions will affect up to seven per cent of Arsenal's 871 permanent workforce. GOAL reported that neither the men's nor women's playing and coaching staff will be affected by the cuts.

Arteta's response

Arteta said: "First, this question is not for me." Arteta said: "It was explained to me about the exercise, and the analysis that has been done across the club, and with the intention always to evolve to improve."

What Arteta said about the restructuring

Arteta said: "Some decisions have to be taken to put people in the right roles, and keep investing, to achieve what we want to achieve the success that we want to create. That has been explained." Arteta said: "Obviously, I am not the right person to answer to that question." Arteta said: "That's for sure. And hopefully everybody will respect that."
