Barcelona said the Spanish league Clasico against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou on Sunday evening will go ahead as normal despite a strike involving around 60 employees. The decision followed stalled negotiations at the Catalonia labour court, where the two parties failed to reach any agreement.
Match plans
GOAL, citing Mundo Deportivo, said Barcelona confirmed Sunday evening's Spanish league match against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou will run as normal despite the strike.
Why workers are striking
The workers taking part want to protest against what they see as a deterioration in their working conditions. One of the workers' demands is enough staff to cover the logistical requirements of organising sporting events at the club.
Club response
Sources at Barcelona said the club has the organisational capacity to handle any emergency and guarantee that the scheduled matches go ahead without replacing striking workers in breach of the law.
Other events affected
The strike also hangs over other Barcelona sporting events that weekend. Barcelona's women's team are due to play Granada on Saturday in the Spanish women's league at the Johan Cruyff stadium. Barcelona's handball team host Rebi Cuenca on Friday 23 October in the Spanish handball league at the Palau Blaugrana. Barcelona's basketball team face Casademont Zaragoza on Saturday in the Spanish basketball league at the Palau Blaugrana.
