Bayern Munich's English-language X account posted a picture of Harry Kane in a tuxedo on Tuesday evening, prompting speculation over whether he had won the Ballon d'Or. The account later clarified that the image was previewing Wednesday's Champions League meeting with Arsenal.
Tuxedo post sparks Ballon d'Or talk
Bayern Munich wrote: "It's almost Showtime" One user replied: "He will win the Ballon d'Or," while another wrote: "Admin, do you know something we don't?" GOAL reported that Bayern's post was no hint that Kane would actually win the Ballon d'Or.
Bayern point to Arsenal fixture
On Wednesday, the account reposted the picture of Kane in a tuxedo and pointed to his statistics against Arsenal in another post.
Kane's record against Arsenal
Kane is one of the leading candidates for the Ballon d'Or, alongside Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe. The England captain has scored 15 goals in 22 games against Arsenal. He has scored more often in his career only against Everton, with 16, and Leicester, with 20. Kane also scored against Arsenal for Bayern in the first leg of the 2024 quarter-final, putting Bayern 2-1 ahead in a match that ended 2-2. He scored all his other goals against Arsenal in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt.
Sport1 report on the footage
According to Sport1, the footage behind Kane's tuxedo picture is already three years old. According to Sport1, Bayern used the footage to announce Kane's move to Bayern in August 2023, shooting at the Filmtheater am Sendlinger Tor cinema in Munich. According to Sport1, because Kane's actual transfer to Bayern, and consequently his arrival in Munich, was delayed, Bayern used a Kane double to shoot the original footage at the cinema. The cinema's operator at the time, Christoph Preßmar, told the Abendzeitung as much three years ago. Kane was ultimately added to the footage digitally.
