Bayern Munich said Viessmann Generations Group is set to become a shareholder in FC Bayern München AG through the last available equity stake. The move means the club has sold the final available block of shares in its joint-stock company while retaining 70 per cent of the shares.
Shareholding structure
According to an FC Bayern München AG statement quoted by CF Bayern Insider, Viessmann is acquiring the last available equity stake, originally representing five per cent. As the transaction takes place through a capital increase, the resulting stake will amount to just under 6.7 per cent.
The same statement said that, following completion of the transaction, the three other shareholders will each hold just under 7.8 per cent, with the four minority shareholders together holding 30 per cent of the shares.
Supervisory board changes
According to an FC Bayern München AG statement quoted by CF Bayern Insider, the supervisory board of FC Bayern München AG is to expand from nine to 10 members, and Max Viessmann is expected to join the supervisory board.
The statement added that Max Viessmann currently serves on the advisory committee of FC Bayern München eV and that the partnership will take effect upon registration in the commercial register.
Focus of the partnership
According to an FC Bayern München AG statement quoted by CF Bayern Insider, the collaboration will focus in particular on projects in sustainability, internationalization and digitalization. The statement also said a brand partnership with Viessmann launched in 2018 has since evolved into a comprehensive global climate partnership.
Herbert Hainer said Viessmann “stands for values such as tradition, ambition and innovation, just like FC Bayern”. He added: “Furthermore, a substantially improved equity base further increases our scope for action at a time of constant change.”
Financial details and comments
According to media reports cited by GOAL, Bayern Munich's partnership with Viessmann will bring the club €250 million. Christian Falk told CF Bayern Insider that Bayern have received an amount of €250m for now and that the money will go into the club’s fixed-term deposit account for now.
Max Viessmann said he wanted “as a fourth-generation family business, to bring not only capital but also our entrepreneurial experience to the partnership. We want to make our contribution to a strong FC Bayern – as a club with its own identity, economically independent and sustainably successful.”
