Inter are due to play Shakhtar Donetsk at San Siro in their third Champions League match. Ahead of the game, Cristian Chivu spoke first to Sky Sport and then at a press conference, saying that after two defeats the team's priority is to win a Champions League match.
Chivu's view of the match
GOAL reported that Shakhtar Donetsk arrived at San Siro having started the competition much better than Inter.
Chivu said: "Every Champions League match is difficult. We face well-prepared, sophisticated opponents who know how to play: they come to San Siro wanting to take centre stage, and they have nothing to lose. Champions League matches are never easy: you need the right desire and determination, and we want to have both from tomorrow evening onwards."
Focus after two defeats
Chivu said: "Yes, we’re aware of these results; we don’t need to be reminded of them all the time. We’ve lost two matches this year, and we want to rediscover that feeling and energy in keeping with our ambitions. There’s too much talk about the past. We need to focus on tomorrow and take to the pitch ready in every respect to get the result."
Immediate priority
Chivu said: "If we're asked about certain things, we answer out of courtesy and because it's our duty. We've said that the Champions League is a dream, but right now, after two defeats, it's better to focus on tomorrow. Winning a Champions League match is the priority at the moment."
His response on Inter standards
Chivu said: "We are not perfect and we do not want to be portrayed as the embodiment of perfection, but I also do not want to see an Inter defeat portrayed as a national tragedy. There is a feeling that Inter have an obligation and the others do not. That is not right."
