Jong Ajax goalkeeper Joeri Heerkens returned to the Amsterdam side's matchday squad on Friday evening after a month out and went straight back into goal. In his comeback match, he made two serious errors, including one that allowed substitute Andy Visser to score.
Back in goal after suspension
Before his return, Heerkens had not played in goal for Jong Ajax since 14 September. In that match against Jong FC Utrecht, he made two blunders and was sent off in the closing stages as Jong Ajax lost 6-1.
After the red card, Heerkens received a three-match suspension. Charlie Setford then had two chances in goal for Jong Ajax.
Two mistakes on Friday evening
At the first cross, Heerkens struck his own left-back Jahyendrow Amour in the face. Amour went down and did not get back up.
Heerkens then misjudged the next cross, allowing Visser to score after coming on as a substitute.
Ajax deal and contract
Ajax signed Heerkens from Sparta Prague for €2 million in 2025 under technical director Alex Kroes. His contract at the Johan Cruyff ArenA runs until mid-2030.
