CaughtOffside reported, citing reports in Saudi Arabia, that Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle is pushing for the club to sign Al Ahli striker Ivan Toney in the January transfer window.
Jaissle wants a reunion
According to reports in Saudi Arabia, Toney is emerging as a top target for Jaissle as he looks to strengthen in attack in the winter window. Toney played under Jaissle at Al Ahli before Jaissle left to take over from Eddie Howe at St James’ Park this summer. CaughtOffside reported that Jaissle is keen on a reunion with Toney.
Toney and a return to the Premier League
CaughtOffside reported that Toney could be tempted by the chance to move back to the Premier League. The report describes Toney as a former Brentford striker and an England international.
Newcastle's forward options
The report says Newcastle sold Alexander Isak to Liverpool just over a year ago. CaughtOffside reported that replacement signings such as Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa have not worked out. The report says Woltemade is on loan at Juventus. The report says Wissa has had numerous injury problems since joining Newcastle.
