Cristian Chivu said he takes responsibility after Inter's 4-3 home loss to Club Brugge and said Lautaro Martinez should return after the November break.

Inter suffered a 4-3 home loss against Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday 13 October and return to Serie A on Saturday 17 October with an away game at Bologna. Cristian Chivu said he takes responsibility for the team’s organisation, while Lautaro Martinez is expected back after the November international break.

Chivu on the Brugge defeat

Chivu said: "I take responsibility for the team’s organisation. I must give the players greater certainty. I can’t control much once they’re on the pitch, but I can be more incisive in explaining how things should be done."

Chivu said something did not work in the final 30 minutes against Brugge, but said Inter must not lose sight of what they did well in the first hour.

Lautaro injury timeline

Lautaro Martinez scored a brace against Club Brugge and suffered an injury during the game.

Football Italia says Lautaro Martinez will remain out of action for circa one month and will also miss the Milan derby later in October.

Chivu said: "I’m not a doctor. I’ve been told that this is the recovery time. We are talking about him returning after the break. We simply need to do what we’ve always done, both with and without Lautaro. Everyone has to demonstrate leadership and help us pursue greater ambitions."

Focus turns to Bologna

Chivu said: "It’s a different competition from the Champions League, and we’re playing four days later. The team had two days to recover, and we had a good training session together today. We discovered an issue with Lautaro after the match. He will be unavailable."

Inter have already conceded eight goals in six Serie A matches and six more in two Champions League games.

Serie A position

GOAL says Inter sit top of Serie A on 16 points, ahead of second-placed Lazio on goal difference alone.
