JJ Gabriel's family and agent were reported to be close to announcing the 16-year-old Manchester United player's next club, with Real Madrid and Barcelona described as the leading contenders.
Decision expected soon
Sport reported that Real Madrid and Barcelona were the leading contenders to sign JJ Gabriel ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich. Those close to Gabriel confirmed to Sport that the final decision would be announced within days. Sport also reported that Gabriel's team had indicated that they would make the announcement on their final decision about his next move shortly.
Waiting in Castelldefels
Gabriel trains alone in Castelldefels, waiting on a resolution to his future and a new playing licence. He has already secured a family European Union passport to clear the last legal obstacles. Gabriel and his entourage have imposed complete secrecy in Castelldefels for the final stage of the negotiations.
Real Madrid terms and other interest
Real Madrid were reported to have agreed to every condition set out by the player and his agent Ali Barat. Sport reported that the total cost of the Real Madrid deal was estimated at 10 million euros. The reported Real Madrid offer includes a three-year contract, bonuses for family members and the agent, and performance-related incentives.
According to GOAL, Bayern Munich expressed interest but never submitted an official offer. Sources confirmed to Sport that Paris Saint-Germain knew the player wanted to continue his career in Spain, specifically with Barcelona or Real Madrid.
Romano's update
Fabrizio Romano explained: "ninety-five per cent chance for Gabriel to go."
Romano explained: "Probably to La Liga, as I always told you since September."
Romano explained: "Paris Saint-Germain also called, also Bayern called, so all these clubs [are making] contact with people close to the player, his family as well."
Romano explained: "But Real Madrid, Barcelona, these are the two clubs who keep talking on a regular basis with JJ Gabriel’s camp, trying to understand if they can make it happen."
Romano explained: "This situation happening now with the first team (loss of form) is not helping to change the JJ Gabriel situation [for United]."
