Vinicius Junior has been given a four-match suspension in Liga after his red card against Villarreal, ruling him out of the upcoming Clasico against Barcelona. Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho responded sarcastically. GOAL says the club had launched an appeal in hopes of reducing the suspension, but those efforts clearly fell on deaf ears.
Suspension after Villarreal red card
Vinicius Junior was sent off during a 1-0 victory over Villarreal and was then handed a four-match Liga suspension. GOAL reported that the suspension was handed down by the Liga Disciplinary Committee.
Mourinho's comments
"As for the four-match ban, I’m actually quite pleased," Mourinho told reporters.
"I thought they were going to give him even more! I half-expected that, with Real Madrid filing an appeal, they might just tack on another match or two. It’s as if they’re saying: 'Just stay calm, keep quiet - you’ve got four games, so don’t say another word'."
Season form
GOAL said Vinicius Junior has struggled to find his best form so far this season, managing just one goal in eight league appearances.
