Investigation Says LG Smart TVs Can Keep Listening, Scanning Networks, and Tracking Viewing Data

A new investigation by Gamers Nexus, conducted with hardware reviewer Level1Techs and three independent security researchers, alleges that LG smart TVs do far more data collection than many buyers would expect. The report says the TVs scan an entire home Wi-Fi network with UPnP, identify connected phones, laptops, and other smart devices, and continue running Automatic Content Recognition, or ACR, even when the set is used only as an external HDMI display. Researchers also said they recovered clear microphone audio from a TV with a dark screen, extracted usable recordings from a hidden microphone after muting the main one, and observed stored audio being uploaded once a previously disconnected TV reconnected to the internet. According to the report, voice commands are converted to plain text and stored in on-device logs, while the microphone can remain active for 10 to 15 seconds after a user stops speaking. The article also points to unresolved remote-code-execution bugs, residential-proxy code found in roughly 42% of apps in LG’s webOS store according to Krebs on Security, and fresh scrutiny over privacy terms after Texas regulators reached a settlement with LG in May. Gamers Nexus said it is now crowdfunding follow-up work on Samsung, Vizio, and other smart TV brands.

Securitize’s HINC Goes Live as Collateral on Solana’s Loopscale for USDG Borrowing

Securitize has brought its tokenized high-yield credit fund HINC to Solana lending protocol Loopscale, allowing eligible investors to borrow USDG against their fund shares without redeeming their positions. The move adds sub-investment-grade corporate credit to an onchain lending venue where collateral has largely been limited to Treasuries, government money-market funds, and investment-grade instruments. HINC, launched on Aug. 18 across Avalanche, Ethereum, Solana, and Sui, invests mainly in high-yield corporate bonds, with additional exposure to CLO tranches, bank loans, and other higher-yield fixed-income assets. The fund carries a $100,000 minimum subscription, a 0.60% annual expense ratio, and is limited to accredited investors and qualified purchasers that pass Securitize onboarding. Loopscale, which reports $91.3 million in TVL and $55.9 million in active loans, uses a RedStone oracle feed based on the fund administrator’s daily NAV to value HINC and manage liquidation events. The listing also highlights unresolved issues around tokenized credit as collateral, including liquidity under stress, allowlist restrictions, liquidation backstops, and the practical challenge of unwinding a NAV-priced asset within a bounded number of business days.

Robinhood’s On-Chain Ecosystem Draws Capital Into Meme Tokens and Stock-Paired Markets

Robinhood’s on-chain ecosystem has produced a wide range of meme tokens, launchpad projects, NFTs, DeFi protocols and stock-paired markets in less than two weeks, according to an analysis published by TechFlow. As of Sept. 1, the ecosystem had at least 30 meme tokens with market capitalizations above $1 million and 28 application tokens. BONER, paired with a tokenized version of HIMS stock, rose from an $8 million valuation to $80 million in a single day. During the New York Stock Exchange’s weekend closure, the on-chain HIMS token reportedly traded as high as $132, compared with HIMS’ $28.8 Friday close. Artificial Inu, or AI, which is paired with tokenized Nvidia stock, reached a market capitalization of $190 million. Other stock-linked pools included Micron, SpaceX, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, QUBT, SPY and ZEC-related projects. Infrastructure tokens also gained attention. UP generated about $180,000 in fees from Aug. 31 to Sept. 1, while PONS, HOOKR, INDEX, DENAR and PICKLES represented launchpad, liquidity, stock-distribution, lending and AI-trading themes. The analysis also covered MARKETPLIER, launched after Markiplier became GoPro’s largest single shareholder, and several smaller sentiment-driven tokens.

Bitcoin ETF inflows snap after nine days as Ether funds keep gaining; Bailey warns AI could trigger a financial shock

Crypto markets spent the past 24 hours balancing ETF flow data, shifting rate expectations and a fresh batch of regulatory and infrastructure developments. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs posted $201.9 million in net outflows on Aug. 28, ending a nine-session inflow streak that began in mid-August. Spot Ether ETFs moved the other way, taking in $102.1 million that day and stretching their run of positive flows to 10 straight sessions. According to SoSoValue, weekly flows still remained strong for both products, with Bitcoin funds adding $924 million over the Aug. 24-28 trading week and Ether funds bringing in $824 million. Macro pressure also remained in focus. Bitcoin held near $78,000 while the dollar strengthened and the yen slipped through 160 against the U.S. dollar. Ahead of Friday’s U.S. nonfarm payrolls report, CME FedWatch data showed traders assigning better-than-even odds to two Fed rate hikes this year. In parallel, Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey warned G20 finance officials that frontier AI models could magnify cyber risks and expose already stretched financial markets to more severe disruptions. Elsewhere, Ireland moved to exclude crypto from a planned tax-advantaged investment account, Japan’s Financial Services Agency proposed easing reporting rules for trust-based stablecoins from fiscal 2027, and several market structure stories landed at once, from DTCC’s tokenization timeline and CME’s new crypto indexes to exchange inflows, venture financing, and fresh security incidents on Fogo and Cronos.

U.S. 100% bonus depreciation creates a different cost-recovery path for mining rigs

FinTax examined how the same ASIC mining machine can produce two very different cost-recovery schedules under accounting rules and U.S. federal tax law. Under financial reporting, listed miners commonly capitalize self-mining equipment as property, plant and equipment and depreciate it over an estimated useful life that may now be as short as two to three years for many models. Under the U.S. tax code, though, qualifying property may be eligible for a full first-year writeoff. The article says H.R.1 became Public Law 119-21 on July 4, 2025, and Section 70301 amended IRC §168(k) to permanently restore the 100% additional first-year depreciation deduction, commonly known as bonus depreciation. IRS Notice 2026-11 later said the rule generally applies to qualified property acquired and placed in service after Jan. 19, 2025. FinTax stressed that this does not mean every mining machine can be deducted in full in the year of purchase. The outcome still depends on tax classification, timing of acquisition, when the asset is placed in service, and whether the taxpayer elects out or uses the transitional 40% option available under IRC §168(k)(10) for the first tax year beginning on or after Jan. 19, 2025. The piece also compared the U.S. approach with Ethiopia and Kazakhstan, where mining equipment generally follows local asset classes and statutory depreciation rules, producing a different tax-accounting profile.
