Wall Street crypto holdings rose in Q2, with ETH exposure outpacing BTC across banks

SEC’s Q2 13F deadline on August 14 brought Wall Street’s crypto positions back into view, and the data showed a clear mismatch with price action. Bitcoin fell about 14.2% in the quarter, yet reported institutional BTC holdings rose 7.5% to about 536,000 coins, even as total ETF holdings declined. Bank-level filings were even more striking: Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan both expanded ETH exposure faster than BTC, while several firms shifted from spot holdings into options. The quarter also showed growing divergence in crypto-linked equities, with Strategy, Circle, Coinbase, and Robinhood drawing very different allocation decisions. Some institutions kept adding, others paused, and a few were already rotating into new products such as Solana and XRP funds.

Bitcoin Holds Around $64,500 Ahead of White House Crypto Meeting as Spot ETF Flows Turn Positive

Bitcoin traded around $64,500 on the morning of Aug. 19 after climbing from below $64,000 over the previous 24 hours, even as macro and geopolitical headlines stayed tense. The immediate focus for traders is a White House crypto policy meeting scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Eastern on Aug. 19, where Donald Trump, SEC Chair Atkins and CFTC Chair Selig are set to appear. Against that backdrop, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs posted a net inflow of $297.56 million on Aug. 18, snapping a three-day streak of outflows, while spot Ether ETFs added another $30.85 million. The source article argues that markets are currently pricing the policy event more heavily than the breakdown in the U.S.-Iran 60-day negotiation window. Trump said there are no current talks and no new talks scheduled with Iran, while Iranian officials described a shift toward a "full offensive" posture and said the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until conditions tied to a June interim deal are met. Oil reacted sharply, with Brent settling at $91.02 a barrel and WTI at $84.94, both the highest closes since July 24. At the same time, the report points to improving Bitcoin technicals, including a move above the 50-day and 200-day EMAs, a MACD golden cross, and a Fear and Greed Index rebound to 41. The key near-term level highlighted in the piece is $65,000, with the White House meeting seen as the main catalyst for the next directional move.

DAT firms take nearly $10 billion in quarterly losses, but the market has moved on

This earnings season, crypto treasury companies posted bruising results: Strategy lost $8.22 billion in Q2, Strive lost $258 million, Sharplink lost $394 million, Metaplanet lost 182.8 billion yen in the first half, and Bitmine's nine-month net loss topped $9 billion. Combined Q2 losses came to about $10 billion, yet several names rallied anyway. The article argues that the market has already priced in the losses and is now focusing on one metric: how much crypto each share represents. Strategy raised $8.4 billion in Q2, repurchased $1.5 billion of convertible debt at a discount, and increased cash reserves to $3.75 billion. Sharplink sold shares above NAV and bought back stock. Metaplanet tightened capital rules around mNAV. The common thread is discipline: these firms are now managing toward higher per-share crypto exposure rather than headline growth. The new funding tools built around perpetual preferred stock, such as STRC, SATA, BMNP and Metaplanet's BitBonds plan, are spreading the model across the sector. Premiums are falling, but the structure may stay. Once the narrative is stripped away, DATs look more like actively managed thematic funds with embedded financing tools, and the market is treating them that way.

Robinhood Chain leads NFT volume as ENS Foundation formalizes operations

A busy week across crypto projects brought updates in protocol design, governance, lending products, wallet security and payment infrastructure. Robinhood Chain posted $3.13 million in daily NFT volume, overtaking Ethereum, while its average daily transactions hit 11.6 million and TVL rose to $473 million. ENS token holders passed and executed the “Next Era of ENS DAO” proposal, turning ENS Foundation into a formal operating body with a full-time executive director, staff and a five-member board. On Solana, Jupiter rolled out Lend v2, a lending upgrade that lets deposited and borrowed assets also serve as trading liquidity. Other notable developments included Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake saying Ethereum L1 will stop pursuing Poseidon and instead move toward SHA or BLAKE-based hashing options; Hyperliquid outlining a plan to route idle HLP USDC into its native lending pool; Uniswap redirecting creator fees tied to a test token into an automatic buyback-and-burn contract; UniSat raising the default seed phrase length for new wallets from 12 words to 24; a USENIX study finding security-rule violations across 15 x402 payment providers; MegaETH’s native stablecoin USDm dropping to roughly $18 million in supply from a peak near $600 million in May; and World Liberty Financial delaying a yield-token launch tied to a Trump-branded Maldives resort project.

Foresight’s weekly Web3 roundup tracks Bitcoin infighting, security breaches, Ethereum roadmap shifts and new corporate bets

Foresight News’ latest weekly Web3 roundup pulls together a dense mix of stories that shaped industry conversation over the past several days. At the center were the death of Quantum Fintech Group founder Harry Yeh in Paraguay, a fresh count showing that more than 300 Web3 projects have gone quiet over roughly 588 days, and renewed attention on Li Lin’s return through Avenir Group-backed UMX. Bitcoin also saw an old fault line reopen after BIP-110 triggered a chain split and cost Luke Dashjr his BIP editor role. The security section was just as busy. A DeFi whale lost roughly $25 million to $26 million in minutes, Trezor disclosed a ShipMonk-related data breach affecting close to 14,000 customers, Harmony was hit by an exploit that expanded ONE supply, and ZachXBT detailed a social-engineering scam tied to at least $5 million in losses. Foresight also reviewed Bybit’s effort to recover funds from the 2025 theft attributed to Lazarus Group, with recovered and frozen assets totaling about $78.9 million so far. On the project side, Vitalik Buterin’s updated Ethereum Strawmap elevated privacy and post-quantum security, Justin Drake said Ethereum would drop Poseidon at L1, Bitwise continued launching products while shutting eight ETFs and cutting staff, and Trump Media & Technology Group showed how far it has moved beyond a pure social-media business.

StarkWare co-founder backs Ethereum’s move toward STARKs, but says key points were missed

StarkWare co-founder and CEO Eli Ben-Sasson said he agrees with Ethereum’s decision to move in the direction of STARKs, described here as hash-based SNARKs, but argued that the framing left out two important points and included one misleading claim. In a post on X, he said the debate between STARKs and SNARKs has been going on for years, with much of the related research previously led by StarkWare and funded by the Ethereum Foundation. He also said small binary fields were introduced to the zero-knowledge proof field in the 2018 ZK-STARK paper, rather than being original to Binius and Flonk. Ben-Sasson added that prime-field STARKs do not require large primes, pointing to Stwo’s use of the 31-bit prime field M31 as an efficient example. He further argued that binary-field multiplication performs poorly on GPUs, while multiplication over small prime fields such as M31 is more efficient, which he said could create hard-to-overcome challenges for GPU designs built on binary fields.
