Iran Offers to Reopen Hormuz Strait—If Oil Is Priced in Yuan

A senior Iranian official told CNN that Tehran is considering reopening the Hormuz Strait conditionally: oil transactions must be settled in yuan instead of dollars. The move challenges the petrodollar system amid a blockade that has halted 20 million barrels of daily oil transit.

Wall Street Watches for Musk’s Next Move as SpaceX-Tesla Merger Talk Gains Steam

Wall Street is debating whether Elon Musk could combine SpaceX and Tesla after SpaceX completed a record-setting IPO in June, according to CNN Business. The idea centers on building a company valued at roughly $3 trillion, with analysts pointing to stronger AI integration, easier capital raising, and a sharper ownership structure as potential benefits. JPMorgan analyst Rajat Gupta said a merger could align the two companies’ vision, mission, and engineering leadership, while also increasing Musk’s effective control over Tesla, where his influence is lower than at SpaceX. The report said Musk holds more than 80% voting power at SpaceX versus about 20% control at Tesla. Investors are also shifting attention away from Tesla’s EV sales and toward Robotaxi, humanoid robots, and SpaceX-linked developments. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives put the odds of a deal before 2027 above 80%, while early Tesla investor Ross Gerber said such a structure would let investors more directly “invest in Elon.” At the same time, analysts flagged major risks, including regulatory hurdles tied to Tesla’s China exposure and SpaceX’s close ties to the U.S. government and military, as well as the possibility that the companies’ Musk-driven valuation premium could weaken after any merger.

Analysts say a Tesla-SpaceX merger by 2027 is possible, but regulation remains a hurdle

CNN reported that after SpaceX went public, attention has turned to whether Elon Musk could seek a merger between SpaceX and Tesla. The question may draw more scrutiny this week as Tesla is set to release earnings after the U.S. stock market closes on Wednesday, followed by an investor call where Musk could offer clues about the future relationship between the two companies. JPMorgan analyst Rajat Gupta said a merger could make strategic sense by bringing the companies’ vision, engineering management and AI operations under one roof. He also noted that Tesla and SpaceX already formed a joint venture, Terafab, in March and are building a chip factory in Austin, Texas. Separately, technology analyst Dan Ives said he sees the odds of a merger in 2027 at more than 80%, while stressing that this reflects his own view. The report added that a combined company could be valued at about $3 trillion, roughly on par with Microsoft, though any deal would still face regulatory complications tied to Tesla’s China business and SpaceX’s close links to the U.S. government.
