GTA V Mod Adds 235 Flock-Style Cameras That Track Players and Can Be Blown Up

A new Grand Theft Auto V mod has placed 235 simulated Flock surveillance cameras across Los Santos, turning automated license plate readers into both a gameplay mechanic and a political statement. Built by modder WTTDOTM, the mod photographs and tracks players, reports in-game offenses to police, and lets users destroy the devices and save footage for sharing online. The release lands as real-world scrutiny of Flock Safety continues to grow in the United States, with criticism centered on privacy, police access to location records, data retention, and oversight. The article also ties the mod to a broader history of player-made game modifications, citing Cyberpunk 2077's once-unofficial Metro System mod as an example that later influenced an official feature. As Rockstar readies Grand Theft Auto VI, interest in the franchise remains high, but so does abuse of that attention, with NordVPN researchers flagging fake apps, phishing pages, and malware campaigns built around supposed GTA VI access.

Alleged IDScan breach puts 150 million IDs up for sale, including Pete Hegseth’s license

Identity verification firm IDScan.net is at the center of an alleged data breach that may have exposed more than 150 million identity records, according to a report cited by Protos. Among the documents reportedly listed for sale on the dark web is the driver’s license of US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, which was said to be available for $100. KrebsOnSecurity reported that the FBI is investigating the incident. The leaked data was allegedly being marketed through the Russian identity theft service Nexus, which claimed to hold travel documents, medical cards, and other forms of identification. Nexus also said it had been continuously extracting fresh data for more than a year, with hundreds of thousands of new records added in recent days, though KrebsOnSecurity noted the service is no longer reachable. Cybersecurity analyst vx-underground shared a list of IDScan clients that may have been affected, including Shell, FedEx, Hertz, GameStop, Caesars Entertainment, Motorola, and several other companies and institutions. Privacy researcher Zach Edwards said his own ID appeared in the leaked dataset after visiting Planet 13 in Las Vegas. Separate security incidents this week also hit X users and Dropbox, while stolen GTA VI footage was reportedly used by a pseudonymous X account to promote a cryptocurrency.

Goldman Sachs says AI returns and consumer resilience will dominate its San Francisco internet conference

Goldman Sachs used its Aug. 25 review of second-quarter earnings in the U.S. internet sector to make a simple point: investors are still willing to fund AI spending, but they are asking much harder questions about timing, payback and margin pressure. The bank said the quarter confirmed three themes across the sector — rising AI investment, resilient digital consumption and a tougher balancing act between growth spending and profit discipline. Internet stocks gained 9% during the period, trailing the S&P 500, which rose 11%. The report also previews Goldman Sachs’ Communacopia technology conference in San Francisco, scheduled for Sept. 8 to Sept. 11. Forty public and private companies are set to appear, with the OpenAI CFO opening the event and executives from Google Cloud, SpaceX and Uber also on the agenda. Across digital advertising, e-commerce, cloud computing, travel, ride-hailing, streaming, gaming, dating and online betting, Goldman said the central debate has shifted from whether companies should invest in AI to how clearly management teams can explain the return profile. In cloud, Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services reported massive backlog growth and ongoing capacity constraints. In consumer-facing internet segments, spending held up, though higher-income and lower-income users are behaving differently.

Solana rallies as binding governance vote tightens future SOL issuance

Solana was one of the strongest large-cap crypto assets in Decrypt’s Aug. 28 Morning Minute, with SOL back above $105 for the first time since January and up roughly 44% in August. The move came alongside the first binding on-chain governance vote in Solana’s history, where three proposals reached quorum and all passed. The most closely watched measure, SGP-0002, doubles Solana’s disinflation rate from 15% to 30%, bringing the network to its 1.5% inflation floor by 2029 instead of 2032 and cutting about 18.9 million SOL from the projected issuance schedule. Another proposal, SGP-0003, splits fees into a validator-paid base fee and a resource fee tied to compute usage that is burned, potentially lifting daily burns from about 650 SOL to as much as 9,000 SOL. Institutional views were split. Solana Company, trading on Nasdaq as HSDT, supported the constitution but opposed the two economic changes, while DeFi Development Corp backed all three proposals and bought 19,000 SOL for $1.86 million. The report also pointed to a demand-side catalyst after Charles Schwab said it plans to add SOL, AVAX and LINK to Schwab Crypto.

CyberLeek token drops after first GTA VI story spoiler surfaces

CyberLeek, the pseudonymous X user tied to a run of recent Grand Theft Auto VI leaks, has released what Forbes games journalist Paul Tassi described as the first real spoiler from the game’s story: footage involving one of its key protagonists. Tassi warned followers to mute certain words on X if they wanted to avoid seeing GTA VI spoilers. Earlier leaks had focused on free-roam gameplay, but this latest material moved into story territory. At the same time, CyberLeek continued asking followers to support the $CYBERLEEK token. The token’s market cap climbed from $40,000 to more than $2 million after gameplay footage first circulated on August 18, then reached $25 million by August 23. At the time of writing, that value had fallen 70% from the all-time high and nearly 40% over the previous 24 hours, touching a low of $7.5 million. Rockstar Games also addressed the leaks, saying GTA VI is not finished and that the team is “heartbroken.” The company said spoilers may affect the intended experience and asked players to wait until November 19 to play the game themselves. Protos also reported that Take-Two has sought subpoenas against Microsoft, Discord, and X as it tries to identify and stop the leaker.

GTA VI leak probe video sparks crypto scam questions as linked accounts promote tokens

A video tied to the ongoing Grand Theft Auto VI leak saga is drawing scrutiny on X, where users are questioning whether an apparent interaction between Rockstar Games representatives and a pseudonymous account was staged to promote crypto schemes. According to Protos, the footage appears to show people described as Rockstar representatives visiting the home of X user @LewisBi94895348, an account linked through the Reddit handle Pilotx1970 that had posted in advance about major GTA VI leaks on August 18. The same account also claimed to know the identity of CyberLeek, the X account that has been leaking GTA VI gameplay footage since that date. The controversy widened after users noted that the Lewis account had promoted a so-called “GTA insider” cryptocurrency before those posts were deleted. CyberLeek, separately, has been using the token $CYBERLEEK to raise funds for what it calls a “secret project” and to let buyers vote on what content to leak next. Protos also reported that an apparent SEC request tied to Take-Two references an in-game virtual currency system called Sharkbux, while internet users questioned the filing because it was addressed to a crypto enforcement unit that was replaced in 2025. Take-Two has also reportedly issued subpoenas to Microsoft, X, and Discord for account details related to CyberLeek.

GTA VI leaker uses gameplay footage to boost CYBERLEEK token

An X user calling themselves CyberLeek posted leaked Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay footage together with the ticker for a crypto token, $CYBERLEEK, and said the token was created to fund a secret project. The footage, which reportedly showed parts of GTA VI’s map and free-roam gameplay, was later no longer viewable on X after a copyright strike from Rockstar Games, the game’s creator. According to Protos, CyberLeek said the fundraising effort was not a “cash grab” and claimed the money would go toward infrastructure, security, and protection needed to carry out action against large corporations. The token’s market capitalization surged nearly 5,800% within an hour to $3.46 million after the posts, before falling to $1.5 million at the time of writing. CyberLeek’s website says the leaks are tied to objections over what it describes as anti-consumer behavior in the video game industry, including digital pre-orders, paywalled single-player content, and the lack of long-term offline access. The account has also threatened to release more footage unless Rockstar Games meets its demands, as debate over GTA VI’s no-disc release plan continues.
