Etoday, Nexblock and RootData sign MOU on Web3 data and content cooperation in South Korea

South Korean economic and industry news outlet Etoday and blockchain-focused digital asset media platform Nexblock said on Sept. 2 that they have signed a memorandum of understanding with global Web3 data platform RootData for blockchain and digital asset data and content cooperation. The partnership is aimed at making global Web3 industry data more accessible to users in South Korea, including information on projects, fundraising activity, investment firms, token unlock schedules and market attention. tZERO and ICE strike deal as ICE joins latest financing round and receives blockchain patent license

tZERO said Intercontinental Exchange, or ICE, has agreed to participate in its latest financing round and, as part of that investment, will receive a license to use tZERO’s blockchain patent portfolio. The license will support the development of a New York Stock Exchange-affiliated tokenized securities platform under ICE, referred to as the Digital Trading Platform, along with other possible use cases. tZERO said the portfolio covers 23 patent families and 103 patents tied to core parts of the security token lifecycle, including compliance-aware transfer logic, upgradeable smart contract frameworks, scalable corporate actions processing, and broker-level identity interoperability. The two companies also signed a memorandum of understanding under which tZERO will act as a core design partner for digital transfer agent and broker infrastructure supporting on-chain settlement. Under the MOU, ICE and tZERO plan to develop standards for digital transfer agents, tokenization agents, and broker users on the platform, while also evaluating whether tZERO tokenized assets could be used in collateral management across ICE clearinghouses and affiliated entities.

SK hynix breaks ground in Indiana for next-generation HBM packaging and testing base

SK hynix held a groundbreaking ceremony on Aug. 27 in Indiana for an advanced packaging artificial intelligence wafer facility, a project the company said will involve more than $4 billion in investment. The site is intended to become the first U.S. production base for high bandwidth memory, or HBM, and will serve as a key link in semiconductor cooperation between South Korea and the United States. Under the operating plan, advanced wafers made in South Korea will be shipped to Indiana for advanced packaging and testing before being delivered to U.S. customers as products made in America. The company said the cleanroom is scheduled to open in October 2028, with mass production of next-generation HBM set for the second half of 2029. The facility is expected to hire about 1,000 professionals across technical and operational roles, while the broader project and follow-on business activity are estimated to create about 7,000 direct and indirect jobs locally and across the U.S. SK hynix also signed an MOU with Purdue University on joint research covering system integration and advanced packaging technologies, including HBM.

Shinhan Financial and Visa sign MOU to test stablecoin issuance and B2B settlements in South Korea

Shinhan Financial Group has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with Visa to test stablecoin-based payment functions in South Korea, according to a report by The Block on Aug. 26. The planned work covers issuance, transfers, and redemptions, and will use Visa’s stablecoin platform to verify how those processes operate in practice. The agreement was signed at Shinhan Financial’s headquarters in Seoul. Beyond testing core stablecoin flows, the two companies also plan to design a business model tailored to South Korea’s domestic financial environment. The cooperation extends to integrating stablecoins into credit card payment settlements, exploring AI-based future payment models, and expanding both B2B and B2C payment services. Key details have not been disclosed. The report said the parties have not revealed which stablecoin will be used, how large the pilot will be, or when testing will begin. The move comes as South Korea broadens its digital asset push. The Ministry of Economy and Finance is planning to introduce a tokenization system in Sejong City in the fourth quarter of 2026, pointing to a wider effort by both public and private sector players to bring digital assets into the existing financial system.
