Poll finds most Americans see Trump family crypto investments as inappropriate
A Reuters/Ipsos poll of 1,166 Americans found that most respondents do not think it is appropriate for US President Donald Trump and his family to profit from cryptocurrency investments while he is in office. The survey, conducted Aug. 14-17, showed 63% opposed the arrangement. The partisan split was sharp: 69% of Republican respondents said it was appropriate, while 92% of Democrats said it was not. The findings add fresh data to a debate that has already drawn scrutiny in Washington. A June disclosure from the US Office of Government Ethics said Trump earned $1.4 billion in 2025 from crypto-related investments, including through the family-backed World Liberty Financial and his memecoin, Official Trump (TRUMP). The White House has said there were no conflicts of interest. Meanwhile, lawmakers have sought investigations and more information, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in July that he introduced legislation to create a federal anti-corruption agency, citing the president’s highly profitable crypto ventures. Trump also addressed crypto at a White House press conference on Wednesday and urged the Senate to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act ahead of a cloture vote scheduled for Sept. 15.
