Lighter’s LIT Leads Perp DEX Token Gains as Robinhood Flow and U.S. Regulatory Bets Drive Attention

Perpetual DEX tokens have outperformed bitcoin over the past month, with Lighter’s LIT posting the strongest gains in the group covered by The Defiant. The move has been tied to trader positioning around a possible U.S. regulatory opening, even though no public filing, CFTC docket, or exchange registration application has linked Lighter to that process. At the same time, broad trading activity across perpetual DEXs has weakened, with DefiLlama showing average daily volume down 30.13% over the past seven days to $20.85 billion. What can be measured more clearly is order flow tied to Robinhood. Lighter powers perpetual futures inside Robinhood Wallet on Robinhood Chain through a dedicated instance that uses USDG as its quote asset, and that venue has supplied a meaningful share of Lighter’s recent volume growth. The product is unavailable to users in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Switzerland, the UAE, and Singapore. The report also contrasts Lighter with Hyperliquid, which has a named route involving Bitnomial and Payward, Kraken’s parent, but notes that Lighter has announced no comparable arrangement. Fee data show Lighter running a far thinner take rate than Hyperliquid despite rapid volume growth and a near doubling in LIT over 30 days.

Ondo asks SEC and CFTC to bring single-stock perpetual futures onshore in the US

Ondo Finance has asked US regulators to allow perpetual futures tied to individual stocks to operate domestically under the country’s existing security futures regime. In three comment letters dated Aug. 24 to the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the company said no new rules are needed to support single-stock perpetuals, arguing that current law can already accommodate the products alongside modern margin practices and onchain market data. The company said its Panama-based affiliate already offers stablecoin-settled perpetual futures linked to US-listed stocks outside the United States, and that the platform had recorded $8 billion in cumulative trading volume as of Aug. 14, roughly six weeks after launch. Ondo also argued that scheduled funding payments serve a function similar to expiry in traditional futures by helping keep perpetual contracts in line with the price of the underlying shares. The proposal arrives as US regulators revisit how long-standing market rules apply to crypto-native products, including tokenized securities and perpetual futures. Ondo, which ranks fourth among tokenized real-world asset managers by distributed value at about $2.6 billion according to RWA.xyz, made its case as coordination between the SEC and CFTC increases and Washington shows renewed interest in bringing more derivatives activity onshore.

Why Singapore Is Emerging as a Gateway to Southeast Asian Art

Singapore is gaining weight on the global art map not because it has the region’s largest domestic collector base, but because it has built itself into a strategic entry point for Southeast Asia. In a discussion organized from a past ULTILAND AMA, host speakers Hannah, head of ULTILAND’s art project, and co-founder Tangtang described the city-state’s rise through three factors repeatedly tied together in the conversation: location, international connectivity, and capital. They argued that Singapore’s value lies in functioning as a standardized regional platform for galleries, collectors, institutions, and service providers trying to engage with Southeast Asia’s fragmented markets. The conversation traced that role through major institutions and events, including Singapore Art Week, ART SG, and National Gallery Singapore. It also examined how spaces such as Gillman Barracks and Tanjong Pagar Distripark reflect the city’s shifting cultural infrastructure. Beyond Singapore itself, the speakers placed the city within a wider Southeast Asian network linking artists from Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia to global collectors and institutions. Their conclusion was clear: Singapore does not need to become another Hong Kong or Tokyo. Its strength is in acting as a hub that connects regional art histories, urban strategy, private wealth, and contemporary artistic production.

YZi Labs’ latest residency class revives a bigger question: is it really a top-tier crypto VC?

YZi Labs unveiled the final cohort for the fourth season of EASY Residency on Aug. 26, selecting 24 early-stage projects that can each receive up to $500,000, with roughly $12 million allocated for the season. The batch is heavily tilted toward stablecoin payments, cross-border settlement, on-chain FX, credit, digital banking, institutional liquidity, AI agents, and on-chain asset management, with “global payments” named as a central investment theme. The article argues that the new cohort highlights a broader shift in how YZi Labs wants to be seen. The firm, which manages more than $1 billion and retains deep ties to Binance through its history and network, has money, reach, and distribution. RootData shows it completed 34 investment rounds over the past year, second only to Coinbase Venture. Still, raw activity does not settle the harder question of whether YZi Labs can consistently spot category leaders before the market does. According to the piece, YZi Labs has been effective at backing projects once demand is visible and then helping them scale through exchange-era advantages, BNB Chain access, and Binance-linked networks. But that same model may also define its limits. The commentary points to missed names in prediction markets and payments, a public dispute tied to the BNB Treasury Company plan with 10X Capital, and a team profile shaped by finance, consulting, and exchange growth rather than deep on-chain product instinct. The test ahead is not how many deals YZi Labs can do, but whether it can develop conviction independent of Binance and identify the next wave before consensus forms.

Oil Back Above $90 Puts Stagflation Trade Back at the Center of Global Markets

Global markets repriced stagflation risk on Sept. 1 after renewed U.S. strikes on Iranian targets pushed oil sharply higher and added to an existing selloff in sovereign bonds. U.S. crude futures briefly moved above $90 a barrel, while Japan’s 10-year government bond yield touched 3% for the first time since 1996. U.S. stocks, gold and bitcoin fell on the day, while the dollar and Treasury yields moved higher. The article argues that the bigger shift is not the headline move in crude alone, but the way energy prices, rates markets and risk assets are now trading together. Weak U.S. data on job openings, construction spending, manufacturing PMI and Dallas Fed services pointed to slower growth, yet higher prices for oil, diesel and natural gas kept inflation concerns alive. That combination has made the Federal Reserve’s policy path harder to read. Citing market participants including Goldman Sachs Delta One desk head Rich Privorotsky, J.P. Morgan Asset Management’s Priya Misra, Natixis strategist John Briggs and Nomura’s Charlie McElligott, the report says pressure is building from refined products, long-end bond supply and hedging demand in options markets. At the same time, it notes the outlook remains uncertain: higher energy prices may not necessarily feed through to core inflation, and rising tail-risk hedges do not by themselves mean rates are set to surge in a straight line.

Allbirds rebrand to AI-focused Smartbird sparked an 800% surge, then a collapse back to pre-pivot levels

Allbirds, once known for its wool shoes and sustainability-driven branding, has become a case study in how an AI pivot can ignite a sharp but short-lived stock rally. According to Protos, the company rebranded as Smartbird a few months ago and recast itself as an artificial intelligence business, sending the stock above $20 overnight for a gain of more than 800%. That jump has since fully reversed, with the shares falling back to the same level they traded at before the rebrand. The report traces the company’s longer decline from a former consumer favorite to a struggling public listing. Allbirds was valued at $4 billion on its IPO day, but lost more than 85% of that value within two years. This year, it sold its footwear intellectual property and merchandise business to American Exchange Group for $39 million. Protos said the company’s latest quarterly filing also warned that it faces intense competition and may not be able to execute its proposed AI infrastructure business at all. After peaking at just over $24 on April 15, Smartbird has dropped 90% and now trades around $2.50.
