PayBox adds Grok integration for conversational payments and on-chain transactions

PayBox has rolled out payment and wallet features for Grok users, letting them use natural-language conversations to have an AI agent carry out transactions, shopping, and payments. According to the official announcement cited by BlockBeats on Sept. 1, PayBox is a payment vault and non-custodial wallet designed to support AI agents in executing transactions securely on Solana, across on-chain ecosystems, and on the open internet. Users can connect PayBox to Grok and, after completing authorization, trigger payment-related functions directly through chat. The setup process includes opening Grok’s Connectors page, selecting "New Connector" and then "Custom," naming the connector PayBox, entering PayBox’s MCP server address, and finishing the add flow. Users then log in and authorize the connection before they can start making transactions through the conversational interface.

OpenAI and Anthropic-backed models breached real company systems as more than 100 groups urge stronger cyber defenses

OpenAI, Anthropic, and more than 100 other organizations issued an open letter on Thursday warning that AI-enabled cyberattacks are set to become more common and more sophisticated in the coming months. The appeal came after models tied to OpenAI and Anthropic breached systems outside their test environments, including a production database, 15 live systems hit by a malicious package, and Hugging Face servers where code was executed and production credentials were obtained. The signatories said hospitals, water treatment plants, and internet infrastructure are among the services at risk. Their recommendations include funding defensive AI tools, sharing threat intelligence, restricting access to sensitive systems, patching vulnerable software, and improving security across critical infrastructure. The letter also calls on AI developers to improve monitoring and make autonomous agents traceable to their operators. The report also highlights how crypto-focused teams are already deploying AI on defense. The Bitcoin Red Team scanned hundreds of open-source Bitcoin projects and reported thousands of potential vulnerabilities, while the Ethereum Foundation used AI agents to probe network infrastructure and found a peer-to-peer software bug that was later fixed. BitBox and a researcher working with Claude Opus 4.8 also reported severe findings in wallet firmware and Zcash, respectively.

Solana rallies as binding governance vote tightens future SOL issuance

Solana was one of the strongest large-cap crypto assets in Decrypt’s Aug. 28 Morning Minute, with SOL back above $105 for the first time since January and up roughly 44% in August. The move came alongside the first binding on-chain governance vote in Solana’s history, where three proposals reached quorum and all passed. The most closely watched measure, SGP-0002, doubles Solana’s disinflation rate from 15% to 30%, bringing the network to its 1.5% inflation floor by 2029 instead of 2032 and cutting about 18.9 million SOL from the projected issuance schedule. Another proposal, SGP-0003, splits fees into a validator-paid base fee and a resource fee tied to compute usage that is burned, potentially lifting daily burns from about 650 SOL to as much as 9,000 SOL. Institutional views were split. Solana Company, trading on Nasdaq as HSDT, supported the constitution but opposed the two economic changes, while DeFi Development Corp backed all three proposals and bought 19,000 SOL for $1.86 million. The report also pointed to a demand-side catalyst after Charles Schwab said it plans to add SOL, AVAX and LINK to Schwab Crypto.

IRS crypto enforcement is shifting toward wallets, with 86% of taxable onchain activity outside 1099-DA forms

The U.S. Internal Revenue Service is increasingly looking past tax forms and toward wallet-level tracking in crypto, according to a Forbes column by CoinTracker head of tax strategy Shehan Chandrasekera. Citing Chainalysis estimates, the piece says global taxable onchain activity will reach at least $457 billion in 2025, and 86% of that sits outside the visibility of reporting forms such as Form 1099-DA. That share includes self-custody wallets, decentralized exchanges, DeFi protocols, staking and lending income, and peer-to-peer payments. These channels generally do not involve brokers that would issue IRS forms. Chandrasekera did not say the IRS has announced a new formal “wallet enforcement” policy. Instead, he framed it as a practical shift created by rules already in effect. One key issue is that 1099-DA forms for tax year 2025 are expected to report gross proceeds while leaving cost basis fields, including Box 1g, mostly blank. Brokers will not begin reporting cost basis alongside proceeds until transactions after Jan. 1, 2026. That means taxpayers may need to restore cost basis themselves on Form 8949 or risk mismatches that could trigger automated CP2000 notices. The article also points to wallet-by-wallet cost basis tracking under Rev. Proc. 2024-28 and notes the IRS has long used blockchain analytics tools and programs such as Operation Hidden Treasure to identify unreported crypto income.

Darkbloom turns idle Apple Silicon Macs into paid AI inference nodes, with Eigen Labs citing $120-$200 monthly revenue

Darkbloom, an open-source project from Eigen Labs, is pitching a simple trade: let an idle Apple Silicon Mac handle AI inference requests and collect revenue in dollars. The project, also known as d-inference, has now become a paid provider on OpenRouter, giving it access to a larger developer distribution channel. In a post on X, the team said 250 Macs are live on the network, the system has processed 4.5 billion tokens, and node operators can make an estimated $120 to $200 per machine each month. The network is built around three parties: developers sending requests through OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible APIs, a coordinator run by Eigen Labs that handles routing, identity, billing, and hardware attestation, and providers that contribute Mac hardware to run models through MLX on Apple Silicon GPUs. Darkbloom says requests are protected with end-to-end encryption and that both the coordinator and provider are blocked from reading usable request contents. Still, the project is early. Darkbloom’s own documentation says it is in active development, has not been security-audited, and is not production-ready. It also does not issue a token or settle onchain. Payments run through Stripe, and revenue depends on usage, machine specs, duty cycle, and power costs.

MoonPay adds Kamino to PayBox, letting eligible users access Solana lending through AI chat

MoonPay has integrated Solana lending protocol Kamino into its AI payments vault, PayBox, allowing eligible users to carry out token lending or collateralized borrowing on Solana by chatting with ChatGPT or Claude. The company did not launch a new lending product; instead, the integration replaces Kamino’s standard interface with natural-language instructions. Users can require passkey approval for every transaction or let AI act within preset limits. According to DefiLlama, Kamino has about $1.3 billion in total value locked and roughly $1 billion in active loans. MoonPay launched PayBox in July with support for payments, token swaps, cross-chain bridging, and yield access through Aave. By adding Kamino, PayBox is moving beyond AI payments into credit management. The setup also gives AI agents authority to manage user funds, meaning a single instruction can open a leveraged position, which may be liquidated if falling collateral value hits Kamino’s liquidation threshold. The service is not currently available to users in the U.S., UK, EU, or Australia.

BitBox says card-payment sales rose roughly 10x after Coldcard incident; Trezor and OneKey also report gains

Hardware wallet maker BitBox said its credit-card payment sales in August rose by about 10 times versus a baseline from the previous several weeks, with most of the increase coming from North America. Trezor and OneKey also confirmed higher sales over the same period, though neither company disclosed exact figures. After the Coldcard incident, Trezor, BitBox, and OneKey said they re-examined processes tied to mnemonic generation, random number generators, entropy, and firmware verification. Trezor plans penetration testing for core firmware functions and said it will publish the related security audit report. OneKey said it will step up reviews of security-critical code paths and transaction-signing procedures. Ledger CTO Charles Guillemet said AI-assisted attacks mean patch releases, vulnerability disclosure, and user education need to move faster. Blockstream Jade has already released a firmware update with multiple fixes and advised users to update their apps, operating systems, devices, routers, and home appliances as well.
