AI hardware startups are moving from ski slopes to tennis courts to rebuild sports training

A new crop of founders from ByteDance, DJI, Tencent, Amazon Lab126, Smartisan and other major tech companies is pushing AI hardware into narrow sports-training niches, from skiing and golf to tennis and basketball. The report centers on startups such as Heygo, BirdieSense, PomBot, LUMISTAR, MossCode, BleeqUp and XbotGo, and tracks their products, funding rounds and go-to-market strategies over the past two years. The common thread is not general fitness tracking. These companies are trying to answer a harder question: whether a movement is correct, where it breaks down, and how to turn that judgment into usable feedback. In skiing, Heygo uses two IMU sensors clipped to ski boots and a model trained on million-level skiing data to infer ski posture. In golf, BirdieSense uses a monocular camera and on-device 3D pose analysis. In tennis and table tennis, robot trainers are replacing repetitive ball-feeding sessions, a use case that is easier for users to pay for immediately. The article also points to a second branch of the market focused on recording sports activity rather than judging technique, including AI watches, sports glasses and auto-tracking cameras. Across both branches, falling edge-compute costs, large-model-based natural-language feedback and crowdfunding-led overseas distribution are helping the category gain momentum, even though no single blockbuster financing has yet defined the sector.

Apple ships iOS 27 with holiday alarms, smoother performance, but no China Apple Intelligence rollout yet

Apple released the final version of iOS 27 in the early hours of Sept. 15 Beijing time, three months after its WWDC debut. In a detailed hands-on review, Chinese tech outlet Lei Technology said the update is defined less by headline AI features and more by a long list of practical refinements that regular users will actually notice. Among the changes highlighted were long-requested holiday alarm scheduling in the Clock app, frame extraction from videos in Photos, more customizable camera shortcuts, separate volume controls for alarms and alerts, adjustable transparency for the Liquid Glass interface, richer weather breakdowns, character-component input in the built-in Pinyin keyboard, manual QR code storage in Wallet, finer AirPods noise-control tuning, and time-limited location sharing in Find My. The outlet also pointed to what it called the most important upgrade: better smoothness, with Apple claiming app launch speeds can improve by as much as 30% and photo loading by as much as 70%. The report said iOS 27 still has bugs, though fewer than iOS 26, and argued that users already on iOS 26 may want to upgrade while people on much older versions should think more carefully. Compatibility still goes back to the iPhone 11, but, citing a response relayed by China News Service-affiliated Zhongxin Jingwei, the article said Apple customer service does not recommend upgrading devices older than the iPhone 13. It also stressed that updating to iOS 27 does not automatically bring Apple’s newest AI features: Apple Intelligence has not launched on mainland China devices, the oldest supported model remains the iPhone 15 Pro, and on-device AI models for iOS 27 require 12 GB of memory, limiting support to a smaller list of newer phones.

Apple accepts Samsung’s Q1 2027 mobile memory pricing as DRAM and NAND quotes jump 30% to 40%

Apple has accepted Samsung Electronics’ mobile memory pricing for the first quarter of 2027, according to an exclusive report published by Jiemian News on Sept. 15. The quoted levels put DRAM close to $2.0 per Gb and NAND flash close to $0.33 per Gb, representing a 30% to 40% increase from the third-quarter pricing benchmark this year. That was far above the 7% to 10% range previously reported by South Korean media. The report said Apple’s acceptance has narrowed negotiating room for Android handset makers. Supply-side pressure remains intense. TrendForce data showed DRAM and HBM capacity at Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron has been largely locked up, while NAND allocations to customers are only 60% to 70% of demand. Omdia data also pointed to lower consumer NAND wafer output plans in 2026 as manufacturers shift capacity toward higher-margin HBM and server products. Price increases are already feeding into end products. TrendForce estimated the memory cost of the iPhone 18 Pro 256GB rose nearly fourfold from a year earlier, lifting the storage component share of BOM to 34% from about 10%. UBS expects the memory supply-demand gap to widen further in 2027 and said the tight market may last into the first half of 2028.

MediaTek posts record August revenue as Dimensity 9600 launch nears

MediaTek reported August 2026 consolidated revenue of NT$64.183 billion, up 32.41% from July and 44.08% from a year earlier, setting a new monthly record, according to ABMedia. Revenue for the first eight months of the year reached NT$413.991 billion, a 5.76% annual increase. The company is scheduled to unveil its Dimensity 9600 series at 14:30 on Sept. 15, with the Dimensity 9600 Pro described by the report as the first Android flagship platform built on TSMC’s second-generation 2 nm N2P process. The standard Dimensity 9600 will use an enhanced 3 nm process. ABMedia also said NVIDIA invested $3.5 billion as a strategic investor to subscribe to MediaTek’s overseas exchangeable corporate bonds, extending cooperation from smart automotive cockpit and AI PC projects to custom cloud ASIC development. The report added that Citi has set a target price of NT$6,800 for MediaTek shares. As of the Sept. 10 close, the stock stood at NT$4,720, up 21% over the past month, while analysts cited in the report said the company is close to clearing the low end of its third-quarter guidance.

Samsung Mocks Apple Foldable Launch as Chinese Brands Push the Category Ahead

Apple’s first foldable, the iPhone Duo, prompted a public jab from Samsung’s U.S. account, which described the product as "leftovers," according to BlockBeats. The exchange drew attention, but the report argues the more meaningful shift is happening elsewhere: competition in foldable phones is no longer centered only on Apple and Samsung. The figures cited in the report show the iPhone Duo at 5.2 mm unfolded, weighing 254 grams, with a crease depth of about 150 microns. Against that, OPPO’s Find N5 is listed at about 101 microns, Huawei’s Mate X6 at about 5 microns through its Xuanwu waterdrop hinge, and Honor’s Magic V6 at 4 mm unfolded. Form factor competition has also widened. Apple’s first device uses a conventional inward-folding book-style design, while Huawei has already released a tri-fold model. Honor and Xiaomi are also working on vertical clamshell foldables. The report says Chinese vendors continue to compete on hinges, hover support, thinness, weight, and durability. Samsung remains the global foldable leader, the report says, but Chinese manufacturers are catching up quickly as technology iterates and prices move lower.

Jiangbolong Lists in Hong Kong at HK$236 a Share, Completing A+H Structure With Market Value Near HK$107.5 Billion

Jiangbolong made its debut on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange main board on Sept. 8, completing its A+H listing structure after already trading in Shenzhen. The company priced its H shares at HK$236 and sold 26.0778 million shares globally, raising about HK$6.136 billion. At the opening price, its market capitalization stood at roughly HK$107.5 billion, while its A-share market value was about RMB 154 billion. Founded by Jiangxi-born twin siblings Cai Huabo and Cai Lijiang, Jiangbolong grew from a small memory counter in Shenzhen’s Huaqiangbei into what the article described as the world’s second-largest independent semiconductor memory company. Its prospectus showed first-half 2026 revenue of RMB 24.088 billion, up 136.26% year over year, and net profit attributable to shareholders of RMB 10.577 billion, up 71,528.66%. The report also highlighted the tension behind that surge. Gross margin climbed to 58.2% in the first half, helped by rising memory prices, but operating cash flow was negative RMB 3.151 billion, inventory reached RMB 25.777 billion, and total short- and long-term borrowings exceeded RMB 15.4 billion. The company said the Hong Kong proceeds will go to research and development, strategic investments and acquisitions, and working capital as it pushes further upstream into chip design and supply-chain integration.
